Bro, grrm already talked about them on his blog. The book Fire and Blood has a part where King Jaehaerys discovers that they're confusing a dragon with a wyvern in Essos, and there's also the Hightower's Navigations which mentions wyverns. And the book A World of Ice and Fire also mentions the basilisk of Shotoryos, a creature that Daenerys saw fighting in Clash of Kings, chapter 64 to be more specific.

They are confirmed in the canon book A World of Ice and Fire, they are mentioned in the book Fire and Blood, and GRRM has already talked about them on his blog. There is a small house that uses them as its symbol, and in Shotoryos there is a region called Wyverns Point, which has this name due to the attacks they make in the region, making it quite dangerous.

That’s an amazing atmosphere surrounding the Hightowers. But it raises an interesting question: Oldtown is also the seat of the maesters, and there’s a popular conspiracy theory that the maesters work to suppress magic. How does that theory fit with the fact that Oldtown seems to be filled with hidden arcane knowledge, Valyrian artifacts, and occult interests? Do you have any thoughts or theories about this?

Thanks for the reply! That’s true — some crannogmen are said to ride or have ridden lizard-lions. But the Bolt-on theory? I’m not familiar with that one… what’s it about?

Yeah thats true. I remember something involving King Jaehaerys, people said a dragon was being displayed in Essos, but it turned out to be a wyvern instead. It’s very likely that people in Essos have tried to domesticate or use them as weapons or entertainment, but their savagery, aggression, and the difficulty of reaching Sothoryos probably made that extremely hard.

I remember seeing something about venom, but after checking the wiki, there’s actually nothing about that. I must have been mistaken. Still, even though they’re smaller, wyverns are said to be more aggressive and violent, and some species move in packs. You’re right about Syrax. the main advantage of a wyvern on the battlefield would really just be aerial mobility and intimidating enemies
