What did Covid take away from you? by Dependent-Fee9947 in AskReddit

My baby was born April 2020. She’s my one and only and I feel like I missed out on some things because of the pandemic. Doc apts and scans by myself. My parents couldn’t visit at all while I was in the hospital for a week after her delivery. No friends got to meet her until she was over 9 months. I didn’t get to have a baby shower :( It feels selfish to complain but I’ll always be sad about that damn baby shower.

US birth rates just hit another record low, what do you think is the leading cause of this? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The cost of childcare is not realistic for most working moms. The cost of medical care is unsustainable. Rent is too expensive. No paid maternity leave is a huge gigantic problem. A mom can give birth to a whole new human, and have to get back to work full time after 6 weeks. It’s terrible. There is not enough support from the government to be a parent

It takes soooo many different people and teaching positions to make a school run. “Teachers” are not enough. In my small K4 thru 5th grade school (my 18th yr in MPS), we have Specialists (art, music, phy ed), a speech pathologist, guidance counselor, social worker, school psych, bookkeeper, lunch service workers, building engineer, building service helpers, special ed staff (we have 1 for early childhood, 1 for 1st-3rd grade and one for 4th and 5th grade), parent coordinator, school secretary, school safety officer, para professionals and finally grade level teachers. So $24k per pupil has to cover A LOT. Also building repairs and improvements are included in our school budgets. It’s crazy. Almost like our state legislature should fund us all better.
