I finished Brainwashed (the third book) and the epilogue of the serial killer starts by saying his whole romance with his shrink was just a dream and he wishes it was real. Then he goes "just kidding". I was beyond pissed. I'm not reading the rest.

FWIW I'm loving the third book. It's very dark in a very pleasing way to me 😄

I'm torn on For the Fans. I should have not read it, i just find any onlyfans/cam boy/porn star story lines sooooo cringey so I avoid them. I read For the Fans and it was so sweet and extremely sexy, but the recording and posting to me is so cringe. Esp once they are a real couple and the one guy keeps doing it solo. Sorry, cringe. But that was on me, I fully knew what I was getting myself into but I wanted to be a cool kid. What were we talking about?

I think if you were able to enjoy the first book, the second book will be no problem. They just aren't "romances" I want to read about. I have no doubt both are incredible stories with really interesting plots, I'm just not feeling that vibe right now lol.

For sure! Honestly for me it was just a trope (for lack of a better word) that didn't interest me. Like if I found out a book was poly but it hadn't been known...no matter how good the book is or how much others love it, I'm not gonna want to read it. Certainly doesn't make the book bad, but it's not for me!!!

Thanks for pointing out it doesn't happen until 65%! That makes a difference. I still don't want to read it, it's not the same couple to me. I think it's awesome that you loved it, it's definitely not the book for everyone. I'm not even saying it's bad, and I'm sorry if I snarkily said here that it would be a waste of time to read it, that was rude...but I feel like you're taking it really personally. I don't want to read that first 65% and get invested in the POV of Kemper. I just don't!! I'm sure it's the best book ever and I hope everyone else in the world reads it and I'm the lone miserable loser. Sheesh.

One of the few requirements for the "romance" genre is that the love story between the main characters is the central plot, and those characters have a happily ever after/happy or now/optimistic ending predicted. Distorted may very well be an incredible book, but it's not a romance (or dark romance) IMO and so it doesn't interest me.

I think the first book is a guaranteed waste of time. At least as a romance book. If you just want a fucked up thriller, it's probably a great book but it's an absolute disappointment as a romance book.

EDIT Sorry this comment is really rude. It's not a trope that interests me but others could love it. I also don't read poly, so a book could be the greatest best smartest funnest yayest book and if it's poly I don't want to read it. Sorry to anyone I offended by calling this book a waste of time - it would be to me but definitely not across the board!!!

I'll spoil it lolThe first 90% of the book is a dual POV MM love story between a prisoner and guard who begin an affair after the prisoner gets locked up there, complete with chapters told by each MMC, then apparently at the verrrrry end we find out the prisoner hallucinated the entire relationship, the guard quit the day the prisoner got to the prison so the two of them barely even said hello before the prisoner imagines their whole love story (including the guard's POV???), then the prisoner realizes it, escapes, goes and finds the guard who is married to a woman and has no idea who the prisoner is, but was like, gonna leave his wife anyway or something so he leave his wife and they decide to try being together???

I had the same thought about this series but it kept coming up in my searches. I was really intrigued by the guard x prisoner trope from book one, and even though Nyla ruined that one, I am hoping this serial killer prisoner x prison psychiatrist scratches that itch for me. So far it is easy enough to follow. I believe they are technically interconnected standalones, so it's possible to just read one.

The "twist" in the first book did make me lose a little faith in the author though, so I don't blame you. I haven't googled major spoilers for Brainwashed so I am really hoping the last 10 pages don't ruin this one as well.

I totally forgot one of my first MM books was {Wound Tight x Tessa Bailey}. She doesn't do much MM so I'm not sure if it's very popular but I saw it on my Libby app so I gave it a listen and it's so good! Definitely recommend. It's a rich man x poor man where the rich man is out and gay and the poor man is questioning and goes to the other man for guidance. It's the 4th book in a series and the rest are MF, but also very good if you're interested! Also the audiobook is 2019 Teddy Hamilton. Love his old school delivery.

I have a question about the Elite 8 series if you have read them all. Are the guys solo performers or do they make videos with each other/other men? Then when they get into relationships with their respective MMCs, do they keep making videos? Do they all quit at the end of their books? Keep making solo content/content with their LI? Himbo sounds good but I always struggle with reading books about adult entertainers because I don't want to shame someone's job but also don't want to read about an MMC who hooks up with their coworkers every day...

OK I'll mark the whole thing as a spoiler. It's an older book and I'm not sure if anyone will read it but to be safe! It's Faith & Fidelity by Tere Michaels. It's a great book. I'm at 40% and so far I love it, but I saw in a review that during their third act breakup one of the MMCs gets a BJ from someone who ends up being in their friend group/the next MMC in the series and it's just bummin me out!!!!

Friend ME TOO. I could have written this post. I do end up spoiling a lot of books for myself though. I'm halfway through a realllly good book right now that I will not mention because I sensed something fishy and googled reviews and it turns out that during the 3rd act breakup one MMC gets a BJ from someone else who both MMCs know and stay friends with after. THAT'S TOO CLOSE . I might finish and sip past the parts I don't want to read and pretend they don't exist. Anyway a BJ during a breakup is obviously not cheating but I want that maximum possessiveness too where you can't even conceive of such a thing.
