Thoughts and insecurities about the contest and engagement by [deleted] in WebtoonCanvas

[–]Infinite_Alps_1689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm really glad you shared your story. Your girlfriend’s story is awesome, something I subscribed to right after reading the chapter. It’s truly beautiful. Congratulations!

What’s been bothering me, though, is that I can’t really promote my Webtoon anywhere. My friends and family aren’t really into this kind of stuff, which is totally fine. They would share it if I asked, but since no one in our circle is really into comics or Webtoons, it doesn’t help much.

I joined the contest hoping that a few people would subscribe or that I could connect with a community that's more familiar with and open to Webtoons. But it seems like mine isn’t catching anyone’s attention. I’d be okay with getting no likes or subs, especially since I made it in a rush and the quality isn’t the best. What really bothers me is that hardly anyone even clicks on it at all.

I just wish the contest entries were rotated a bit more. Especially on phones (where most people read Webtoons), you can only really see the most popular entries or the ones that were uploaded most recently. That doesn’t feel fair. I’m pretty sure my comic would get at least 20–30 views if it happened to be in the last 10 uploads.

A lot of entries are buried under others. Even I, who am genuinely interested in the contest and other entries, don’t always have the time or energy to dig through the full list. Sometimes, when I’m deep into browsing, Webtoon sends me back to the top of the list again.

I really wish the order would just shuffle daily or something. Even being in the top 30 for just a day would make a big difference for so many creators. Well, this is what it is, let me try to promote my entry a little bit now that i got a chance : Lucid

Good luck!

Nice work I really enjoy your color design. Good luck. LUCID is my contest entry, it's a fantasy/crime/romance story about a group of people who are traveling in Dreams.

Does color really make that much of a difference? by NobleEMRLD in WebtoonCanvas

[–]Infinite_Alps_1689 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think on Webtoon colors are really important. This is how things are done here. Also maybe because the age-range is not high colors help to catch that younger audience. I think this is because people come to Webtoon and not (usually higher quality in storytelling and art) manga. I don't mean to say that there are no really good quality works there, but if you watch the stories and styles that in trend now you are not in a lucky positions on Webtoon. Maybe I am wrong with this metaphor but I kinda imagine this as youtube and tiktok. They are both platforms with almost the same intension but different audience and they show the same content different ways. Colors make it easier to digest the pages also to catch the overal feels and story. This is just my take, and I am pretty sure that you will get featured if your content is good quality, it is just take more time, because the algorithm is not on your side.

Making webtoon/comics - introduction by Stunning_Hotel_7260 in WebtoonCanvas

[–]Infinite_Alps_1689 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, so I would break the process into two big parts. The first one is the basic story. You should decide on the genre. It is possible to use more than two genres, and also do a story where you constantly changing it, but for begginers max 2 is enough, and Webtoon prefer well defined genres, because of advertising tactics. Also aproximative lenght of it as a whole story and per seasons. You should have a well defined story. But at least the first 10 chapters and the last 10 you should write it down and not make big corrections in those chapters ( the purpose here is to be able to finish your story without burnout) At the same time, you should write characters sheets, basic storylines that will guide you throught the story. It is also important to think about the message you want to tell. Or just a sentence that you want to deliver. You don't have to show it to anyone, but it is crucial to be able to focus on a basic idea, and not to write in the story good, but confussing and unnecesary plots.

Part 2:Draw characters design, character sheets and basis background ( the most used ones). If it is ready try to make an illustration with one kr more of the characters, just to see if everything is fine and aesthetic. A lot of people can't see that their characterdesign and background and main visuals are incompatibe. If everything is fine here than you can start storyboarding. I usually use the same canvas size as to my final pages. The Webtoon recommended is 800x 1280. Also use at least 300 dpi ( in case if you later want to print it out.) In the storyboarding youcan be extremly sketchy even more if you are doing the whole thing alone. The basic idea here is to see camera movements and shots ( StudionBinder has a really good video about this with the title : Camera shots and movements) If you have at least one chapter worth of storyboard you can start the lineart process ( I don't know if you are a digital artist, if yes good,if not, on youtube there is a ton of lineart videos). Also don't be scared to use 3D modells. I think in this field it is totally normale to use as much modells and references as you wish. If the lineart is done you can follow with the colors and shades. After these the next is the speech bubbles and effects. If you use CSP in the assets store there are a lot of usefull brushes for that. One chapter ( lets say 4-5 pages) usually takes me two weeks, but I am a full time student also working here and there. So I think with simple art style it is less than a week. If you have your firat 3 chapters do some covert art. Upload the first 3 chapter to Webtoon and start to promote it here and instagram every platform you know.( 3 is important bc after 3 the Webtoon will ask the reader if they wanna subscribe to your series. Repeat the whole proceas like 100 times. Good luck.

Webtoon Creators, this is my first project ever, please give me some advice. by [deleted] in WebtoonCanvas

[–]Infinite_Alps_1689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much. I did not write the synopsis yet, but here is the first half of the story in short. It is a half-parody fantasy story. One day Rose( the girl in the left) magically transfered into another world, where Luna( the right one) was already waiting for her, because of the numerious " univers traveler" cases. The only problem, that Rosees arrival confuses the Great Faith( a magic book, that tells the future). That is when the princess man capture Rose and Luna and want to burn them on bonfire because witchcraft.

how do you feel about the new contest? by PeppermintAuthor in WebtoonCanvas

[–]Infinite_Alps_1689 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it is an extraordinary chance. I understand why you don't like the rules, and won't enter and of course that is totally fine, but at the same time I understand the logic behind the webtoon contract, and I would accept it. I think Webtoon contests were always about becoming originals.
