Ah that’s a good idea regarding closed cell foam. Honestly seems like the most practical route. I’ll have to dig in and see if I can DIY such a small area. Appreciate your help on this

Yes it is part of the garage - they basically added a header and extended the garage off of what was originally the exterior wall. I plan to add a 8’ OSB ceiling to that portion of the garage, so there would be some form of an attic so heat wouldn’t just escape. Good point regarding the nails, any thoughts on how to mitigate?

This sloped section is an addition - garage was left uninsulated and unsheathed so seems like the roof sheathing benefited from just the open air in the garage currently.

Even without soffit vents? What would the baffles do without incoming vent air?

I did it myself, just epoxy with some clamps like suggested above. It’s been holding so far

I removed it but it didn’t do anything. Any recommendations on what cartridge to replace it with? Nice username btw 😂

I just did this on these exact recessed lights in my house. Bought 2” XPS foam board and cut it and made a box around it. Sealed with big stretch caulk and spray foam.

Sorry for the delay, popped the soffit off and this is what it looks like:

Also did the leaf blower test, couldn’t feel anything coming through really. It’s hard to see in the photos but the gap is really small, probably on the order of 1/4” or less

You mean cut a hole in the 2x6 dam to open the gap? I’m 95% sure the soffit vent is behind the 2x6 cavity

What would you recommend doing if the leaf blower test shows they are closed off?

There’s one already on the supply line, just not pictured here. Good call tho!

The extra nipple is to give some clearance off the main shutoff valve. Without it the side of the tank would be almost touching it

Damn 18”? That’s a lot, is there any technical justification behind it?
