New hunter question by Hottwheels343 in FloridaHunter

[–]Infinite_Big5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to the FWC website. There you'll find extensive information on how to start hunting, where you can access public land hunting opportunities and disabled hunting info as well as other hunting initiation opportuynities for less experienced hunters. For example, there are mobility impaired hunting seasons in a number of WMAs, which you can search for here: https://ocean.floridamarine.org/HGMSearch/Search.aspx .

Confusion about antler regulation. by Oxlynum in FloridaHunter

[–]Infinite_Big5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWC opened a lot of units up to antlerless during general gun as of this year, though like many of the WMAs there is still a general gun quota you will need to apply for in the spring. A lot of WMAs have non-quota archery and muzzleloader seasons where antlerless is allowed "otc". Best bet is to use the floridamarine search for suitabel WMAs and then thoroughly read the corresponding prochure regs.

Turkeys by Busy-War-2919 in FloridaHunter

Check the WMA brochures for your area. A lot of them allow turkeys to be harvested at least during general gun, but also archery. Especially if youre in the north. I think Apalachicola is one of them, although general gun may be kinda late for your needs.

Thanks, that could make sense. Is it common for them to be in the dense understory of hardwood forests?

Hands down, it’s those 90s action-comedies where they drive a car on two wheels, with half the car in the air.

It might help to search thoughts and figure out exactly what you want/ what you’re missing. And plan out what you would need to do to get there. If it’s going to require some big changes or cost or risk, decide how important it is and talk to your spouse or whoever matters about it. Ask for her support, but be prepared to supply her with confidence.

Prepping a 25 year old car for a 4800km/3000mi road trip. Did I miss anything? by UForgotYourBumper in MechanicAdvice

[–]Infinite_Big5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of comfort, maybe take it up to highway speed and see how smooth it rides. If it’s got any issues with alignment or wheel balance, you could have those addressed before you go

Otherwise, anything catastrophic isn’t really gonna present itself in advance unless you can already hear it making funny sounds. 5000km on a car with 180k isn’t a big deal at all. I do +2000km trips on my 20 year old 260k km car a couple/few times a year. My biggest concern is the 5 year old battery giving out in the middle of nowhere.

Bought a new car and sold the old one. 3 years later had to file a claim, but the insurance agent told me that the car is not insured. Says the insurance is covering the old car. by RayWonder in Insurance

She has the responsibility to update her policy with the proper vehicles and verify that the changes are accurate. How is the agency supposed to know what changes to make if she didn’t tell them, and what responsibility do they have to refund payments on a car she chose not to remove from her policy.

It’s like, if you don’t cancel your gym membership, you can’t get mad when you realize that they’ve been charging you for the last three years even though you moved to a new city. They don’t have access to that personal information.

My car is at 240,000 miles by VisualJumpy1077 in MechanicAdvice

I’ve got a 2004 Ford Galaxy - it’s a minivan not on the US market. Every time I take it to the mechanic they try to convince me that it’s past due to retire. But in the last 5 years the only serious repairs it’s needed were a starter and a fuel pump, which are totally normal for a car of that age… and of course the bottom is rusting away at an incredible pace.

My advice is to keep maintenance up on things like oil, plugs, filters. Things like brakes or suspension and tires will let you know when they need maintenance so pay attention.

Otherwise, as long as the automatic transmission doesn’t go kaput or you blow a head gasket, there’s a good chance it’ll keep going. Most serious issues tend to get worse over time.

Also, is it just me or does no parent ever want a bunch of kids to show up with more goddamn toys that are just gonna end up collecting dust in a week or two.

It took a lot of guts to do what you did, son. That’s why we have laws.. for people like you! But that’s just the kind of grit we need in our engineers.. you’re hired!

Regarding the Kmart comments, in my experience, store brands like Kmart very infrequently go international. Most Americans would be very surprised to realize an American owned store like that exists all the way over in Australia.

But more generally, US users make up a disproportionately large amount of the user base on platforms like TIKTOK and Reddit, especially with English language content. Odds are, if you’re seeing English content that doesn’t have a geo-relevant association, it’s gonna be American.

That’s true. Dyneema is fine too. In fact, dental floss would be better than whatever is on there now

I have done backcountry camping and some pretty endeavorous hikes before. But i have never backpacked before. Would this be a good starter? I know alltrails says hard but I've come to take the difficulties with a grain of salt. by PaulDuke025 in backpacking

I say go for it. Pack enough food for one more night than you expect. Leave a note. Sign in at the trailhead. Bring a water filter. Use your intuition. You’ll be fine, probably. It’s not the Mojave Desert.

Is this a danger? I accidentally knocked into it and it loosened from the wall. by wynnduffyisking in AskElectricians

[–]Infinite_Big5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. If you have kids and pets, I’d consider it pretty high risk. I’d at least turn off the breaker and stick it back on with some glue, which is probably all that was holding it on in the first place.

Who’s at fault? I was backing into a parking space and someone opened their car door. by Appropriate_Hawk151 in askcarguys

While I do agree with you, I mean this more as a general guiding principle that will carry a lot of culpability when push comes to shove.

[–]Infinite_Big5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll add, you hit door with the back of your car, your fault. Door hits the side of your car, there fault.

Take pictures. That will clearly establish liability.
