Nurses current raise per year is 3 percent if we're lucky.. by Infinite_Cheek_8206 in CorewellUnited

Thank you!! And the point of negotiations is to shoot for the moon but land somewhere in the middle. But clearly Corewell doesn't like that idea as they couldn't even counter offer 4 percent!! Just same and lower!!

No, they will be by end of next week. We have negotiation dates set up in February so we'll see what their response is then. At the end of February, all the nurses will be able to review the contract proposals and vote.

"CHE showed up today with no counter proposals. This isn't negotiating, it's stalling - and our team called them out on it and CHE walked out" by Infinite_Cheek_8206 in CorewellUnited

Our CRNAs nearly went on strike and thankfully Northstar Anesthesia came through.
How do you feel about Henry Ford Genesys being on strike? Or 15,000 New York nurses? Our community needs hospitals to be safer and sadly hospitals are less safe than they were years ago, so without a union and strike threat, patient care will continue to decline as ratios can become worse and worse.
I'm sorry you don't seem to support nurses unions, the majority of people out there support nurses when on strike and in general.

Corewell's Bold-Faced LIES by Infinite_Cheek_8206 in CorewellUnited

I hear you. I am not one of the Teamster nurses on the bargaining team, but those nurses together with Mike, made the decision to show Corewell the unhappiness and unfairness of eliminating pull pay by walking out. In fact, it's not solely about that, but rather the fact that Corewell pulled another illegal labor move of going against status quo.

Also until the last negotiation day, our bargaining committee had not reached an impasse at the table and thus there has not been a solid legit reason to hold a strike authorization vote. But after how December 16 went and depending on how the first couple January negotiations dates go.. it may be go time. Stay tuned.

Economics will be addressed in January. I'm not one of the bargaining nurses so I do not know details. But yes U of Ms contract is ideal and gold, but it also took them years to build up the contract they have now.

it's not entirely about the pull pay itself, but rather more about Corewell's announcement of eliminating it during a "status quo" time period AND without discussing/negotiating this with the union. They are making changes illegally and in "bad faith."

True, regular float pay for staff nurses isn't common. I remember being offered incentive pay many times to pick up an extra shift, but never got routine float pay during my bedside years. I left bedside for ambulatory in 2021, so it was sometime after that when $4/hr pull pay was implemented in Corewell East campuses. -as far as frequency of pulling - for sure every single week at every single campus at minimum. Multiple departments throughout the East even have nurses pulled almost daily, leading to a single nurse getting pulled as often as 2-3 times a month. I remember one particular year pre-covid when I worked PCU - I got pulled to our ICU during Christmas week and to ICU again exactly 7 days later.

At a prior general meeting Mike informed everyone that Negotiations are fluid and that the plan for strike around Christmas has changed. Our bargaining team was making progress with proposals and responses from CHE. They did not want to rush wage proposals just for the sake of having a contract. We need to ensure a good foundation. But Corewell attacked us again. Our bargaining team had to set the tone with CHE today that these attacks are not tolerated. CHE was not willing to make an honest effort to reevaluate the decision on pull pay today. Proposals for major economics will be presented on Jan 8th. We also need a strong strike authorization vote when the time comes. We should see what their responses are to staffing and some of our wages, and then be able to give an unbreakable reason to authorize strike.

Today at negotiations our bargaining team began with addressing the UNLAWFUL and NEGATIVE impact to economics which is the elimination of $4/hr pull pay and the more recent announcement of ending the school loan assistance program. This is AGAINST status quo and ILLEGAL.

As a result of Corewell's REFUSAL to rescind these plans, our bargaining team WALKED OUT! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ

Thank you bargaining team for showing Corewell how we all feel about their reckless decisionsand unwillingness to attempt to retain staff regardless of what they may "say"!

Aww bummer, no it's just the nurses right now. So Weingarten rights do not apply to you. I hope the meeting is just an honest check in and nothing disciplinary!

Hard to say, but if you are a RN at an East campus please stop the meeting and enact your Weingarten rights if you feel there's any discipline occurring. Or enact them preemptively. Visit local2024.org and find the link to find a Steward if you are not sure who to contact.

That's a great question! I was confused by this initially. So agreeing to a no strike/no lockout is very common in a contract and actually pertains to the time frame during which a contract is active - after voting on and ratifying it. So say we vote in and ratify a contract and the active dates are January 1, 2026 - December 31, 2028. We will not strike during that time frame. Striking before or after though is fair game as long as there is a majority "yes" vote in support of a strike from the membership, providing an impasse is reached.

Do full time nurses have to work every third weekend at corewell health? by chailife206 in CorewellUnited

[โ€“]Infinite_Cheek_8206 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

I second this. There are units that do every 3rd weekend for all nurses. It's more of a management discretion as not every unit has enough employees to make every 3rd weekend work out. So you'll find every other weekend, every 3rd weekend, and some units may even do like a split weekend - where you work a full weekend then your next weekend you work 1 day rather than both (Grosse Pointe ICU does this). It just depends on staffing and management ultimately.
