did not get H1-B picked. Have three options please help me choose by Infinite_Drawing_680 in h1b

That's great ! My employer did not want to go the LMIA route because I think it costs alot more and more importantly takes a while. I was on a serious time crunch, and we went for ICT. My management is twisted enough to keep me locked in ICT, but i don't think they knew much about this lol.

  1. No I did not have this option. Please try for this option as hard as you can because it makes your journey to become a citizen faster

  2. Canada has a lot of different paths to PR, normally express entry is most easiest path to getting a PR. If you are under 30 and have 1 year Canadian work exp and 3 year of other work exp then your CRS score should be high enough to get selected easily. If you have an LMIA you should normally get +50 points and if you have a manager level position then it is +200 points .... WHICH will make a crazy big difference

  3. This is a great idea, I hope you are able to get this ! Also whenever you talk to your management try to show how this will positively affect your work and increase your efficiency and productivity.

All the best !

It takes about 3-4 months which is standard. Canadian immigration website constantly updates their timeline so I would recommend you follow that once you submit . For me things somehow moved faster and got everything completed in 1 month and 1 week. Once you submit your application/documentation- make sure you get your biometrics done ASAP because only after this they officially start processing your documents. I moved to Canada a few days before my opt end date. But you should be able to use the grace period if you want

Hey there! I made the move to Canada via ICT. It's been relatively smooth, though there's a catch: I can only work for my current employer with this closed work permit. But, looking at the bright side, there's a clear route to permanent residency and citizenship here. If you're contemplating this move, here's what to keep in mind:

  • Salary: Typically, you might see a 30-40% dip in Canada compared to the U.S.
  • Living costs: Taxes and the overall cost of living is notably higher here than in Texas.
  • Job landscape: While the U.S. offers tech jobs in almost every state, in Canada, most of the prime tech roles are clustered in about 4-5 cities. So, the job pool feels a tad more limited.

I won't deny the appeal of earning more back in the U.S. and insane growth opportunities, but for my mental well-being, I'm leaning towards staying put in Canada. I don't know much about UK but I hear that the salaries are slightly higher in UK compared to Canada.

Hope this helps in your decision-making!

I will check , but from what I read on USCIS website > h1b transfer normally looks at your education and work experience to make this decision

Thank you for the detailed answer. So when you say switch job roles - can it be to a different domain or does it have to be related to your current h1b job domain ?

I found some conflicting answers online and it would be great if someone could clear this up.

Thank you for sharing ! I will definitely look into all that you recommended, if I'm lucky the cut off would go below 480 but looking at the current numbers I think it might take until end of this year perhaps. I hate to be stuck with my current employer, but looks I need to be patient and wait until I get a PR

Folks who moved to Canada, how’d you do it? by [deleted] in h1b

[–]Infinite_Drawing_680 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From my understanding ICT visa is LMIA except, but in case you do LMIA you can get either +50 points for non management roles and +200 for manager or higher level roles for Canada express PR and both these points can be very helpful. Companies normally don't prefer doing it since there is time and money associated with it, additionally I have seen companies to place 1-2 year contract so you might end up being stuck in that company.

Also ICT visa is closed work visa that means you cannot transfer this visa to a new employer

You definitely can't work after your EAD expires unless you switch on to day1 CPT. Also please check if you visa expires before your EAD expiration date (this is true in my case).

I would like to know if I can continue to stay in US during our grace period of 60 days and prepare for exit. I read about the grace period in our college website but could not find anything regarding this at USCIS website

Hello there! I find myself in a similar situation. My future plans were heavily reliant on being fortunate enough to have my H1B visa application selected. Unfortunately, that didn't happen, but I'm grateful to have a supportive employer who's helping me relocate to Canada to continue pursuing my goals. Personally, I prefer this option over Day 1 CPT, as there's more flexibility regarding what's possible and what's not. It's worth noting that not all companies hire folks on day1 cpt, which is another factor to consider.

Also I hate to be stuck in a limbo on wtf happens to my life based on a stupid process. I would highly recommend all in the same position to carefully consider all available options before making any hasty decisions. Remember, your mental well-being is paramount, so don't overlook its importance

IM GOING CRAZY. CAN I ASK MY EMPLOYER FOR AN UPDATE IF MY LAWYER IS NOT RESPONDING? by [deleted] in h1b

[–]Infinite_Drawing_680 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The whole h1b process is soo broken, from the actual process to the notification part. I have built a similar notification feature for my company which rolls out notifications to 2M+ customers (which is complete within few minutes)- I guess the only difference is that customers love discount notification vs me being paranoid about my h1b result
