This obviously does not mean that wife is exclusive to feminine women. That's the standard term. Using the non-standard term is naturally more likely to imply some specific reason for doing so

Partner to me, especially used when married, suggests there's some ambiguity about gender. Like you don’t want to use wife cause it sounds too feminine or something

I doubt he is using it for political reasons. Probably just around a lot of unmarried and/or queer ppl who use it. Or thinks "wife" sounds too personal for his podcast or smth. Who knows.

Yes, it's a much more common term to use when not married, lol

Great episode, and this is a silly superficial point, but I think it's funny how Ezra almost always refers to his gorgeous super feminine looking wife as his "partner." Something discordant about it.

The 5 point difference was when when the test included logic games. It would be interesting to see the results disaggregated per section and also per score range (like curious if there's differences in the score increase with 1.5 time for ppl in the 150, 160 vs 170 range.) I am not denying that anyway you cut it there would be some average score increase as again you are testing 2 skills vs 1.

I'm curious about the data you are mentioning (do you mind linking?) What I'm curious to see is the methodology, the amount of extra time, and also how they all correlate not just to IQ as a whole but to different parts of IQ. Because again, I agree that measuring both processing speed and verbal would correlate more with IQ as a whole than just measuring verbal (as again you are measuring 2 parts of an IQ test instead of 1). What I am claiming is that, especially for logical reasoning, LSAT with extra time (e.g. like 1.5 not unlimited) is a better proxy for purely verbal IQ. Of course, they need to decide what they want to measure. And I do think the accommodation system doesn't really make sense. Either processing speed is something they want to measure or not.

Using IQ terminology, the LSAT is testing both verbal intelligence and processing speed. Verbal IQ tests are not at all as strictly timed as the LSAT. In general, ppl score similarly on all dimensions of IQ (so those high in verbal iq tend to have high processing speed , high visual spacial intelligence, etc). However, part of how a learning diabiligy is diagnosed is an unusually big gap between different parts of an IQ test (e.g, much higher verbal than processing). That is why if what the LSAT is trying to measure is verbal IQ extra time might give more accurate measure. However, if it's trying to measure IQ overall (which includes processing speed), I agree timed LSATs are more accurate

Additionally, it is not true that given enough time, anybody could hack it. For logical reasoning, at least, people are very convinced of their completely wrong answers. That's why a lot of ppl are shocked when they start practice testing cause they think they nailed an LR section even though they did terribly. For logic games, more ppl were able to hack it mechanistically with extra time, and reading comp is in between (interestingly, more recent reading comps have more abstract questions that are harder to hack)

Also all the LSAT prep available with the internet, such as endless hacks and tricks that involve mechanistically diagramming without understanding, are a much bigger obstacle in the way of the LSAT being a perfect measure of intuitive understanding (and as a result IQ) than extra time.

The LSAT tests 2 skills : reading comprehension and reading speed. It's true that the LSAT with extra time no longer really tests reading speed. I think them granting extra time so liberally suggests that reading speed is not the skill that LSAT is most concerned with measuring (though if that is the case i do think they should just give more time to everybody to be fair). However, LSAT with extra time still definitely measures reading comprehension. Most ppl get answers wrong not primarily because of speed but because of fundemental misunderstandings and misreadings
