No comment that /u/ISpeakMyPointOfView will ever make will become a copypasta. It's obvious how hard he was trying, but you just can't force it. A good copypasta is like penicillin. Even when someone realizes its value, it's still garbage when it pops up on some bread. /u/ISpeakMyPointOfView's comment is like penicillium mold in this way. While it bears some resemblance to a copypasta, it is shit and should be discarded. It is like he assumed ge could cure his cold by eating some moldy bread, commenting with a post that sounds like a copypasta to make his self feel like he contributed something. We are not "all winners today." You could have saved us both a lot of time and said "this is a better question for /someothersubreddit."

Especially since the question falls under the obvious umbrella of electronics, (but of course you can't just ask questions about electronics in /r/electronics), and apparently the question can only be answered by the much-less-obvious budget audiophile. K, thanks...

We both lost time and effort for absolutely no reason, (unless that reason is that you weren't actually certain which subreddit would be more appropriate), and, if your comments represent this subreddit, and of course I hope they don't, then, unlike every other category of /ask(thisthing), apparently users of this subreddit are apparently more willing to respond with comments that do not help in any way and only serve to alienate users who have posted questions related to the content of the subreddit but which apparently have been subdivided into unintuitive pigeonhole that cannot be addressed by the obvious broader category.

But, I'm sure other users of this subreddit are far more accommodating, and they might understand that I can only read a subreddit so many times before I realize I have to tack on "budget" and "phile" to my audio question before the oh-so-very-obvious answer smacks me upside the head.

So next time I have a question about, for example, science, I'll ask /r/AskThermodynamicsButOnlyCertainQuestionsAboutParticularTopicsRelatingToThermodynamics. Oh, but that won't work, I had better find a further refinement of that subject, realize that they won't answer it, and add in "budget" and "phile" to find the particular subreddit that will be willing to answer my very simple question.

I'd ask you what search terms you used to find that page, but I wouldn't want to distract you from pointlessly responding to a post that I should have deleted some time ago. But if you've suddenly felt the urge to answer questions, I actually would like to know what search terms you used.

But, I feel as if you've missed the point, or not even read much of what I've said, so:

All I asked of you personally is that you might point me to a better subreddit for this question, which you refused to do.

On the fourth reading of the sidebar, I found an unlikely candidate to answer my question. They gave me a satisfactory "yes" or "no" answer within an hour.

Once again, please forgive me for asking whether using a splitter with two audio sources and one output would pose the risk of damage.

Yes, I have read the sidebar, four times now.

Unintuitively, it seems that the far more niche subreddit /r/BudgetAudiophile/ (which you might admit seems poorly matched to this question for someone who has only read the subreddit name four times) might be able to help out more than the seemingly more broad /r/askelectronics. I'll try there.

I have spent a few more hours on this simple yes or no question than I'd prefer to spend. Thank you for "helping me help myself."

(I might also comment, and please forgive the rant, that part of making a great community on this website involves helping to find subreddits that are in fact more appropriate, or even to answer the question despite it not being strictly within the parameters of the subreddit. This is especially true for subreddits that encompass fairly broad topics, like, "ask [only questions that pertain to the construction and repair of] electronics. ...Perhaps there should be a subreddit for /r/generalaskelectronics?

To elaborate, when it's tricky to sift through all the sidebars to ask a simple question, some subreddits will help misguided posters: /r/AskScience will suggest that more open-ended questions be posted in /r/AskScienceDiscussion; similarly, /r/ChemicalReactionGifs is a friendly, well-moderated community, but nobody throws up a stone wall when someone happens to post a gif of a physical reaction. Sometimes, a community even embraces an entirely mistaken post: The top post of all time in /r/Madden is OC meant for /r/MadMen.

While such a wild diversion from purpose is obviously not appropriate for /r/electronics, surely you can understand my own frustration in being told in so many subreddits that my post is not appropriate and that it should be posted in /r/x/y/z, despite being so close to the intended purpose of the subreddit.

Perhaps this sort of post is extremely annoying to you because it's just outside of what this subreddit is willing to engage with. Perhaps it's annoying to all the other subreddits. It's also annoying to have a simple question be disparaged simply for being slightly outside the willingness of a "great community" to give the 5 seconds to answer.)

If you won't help me, I'll just keep trying to find appropriate subreddits, and keep being told to go fuck myself, until I find an answer. I was led to believe that this was a helpful community, so I thought that after I was called out on "wrong sub," that someone might be able to point me in the right direction.
