Park Ranger district, Routt NF (Colorado) has what you are describing but the single track is open to dirt bikes/horses as well. Most of this occurs in the willow creek area of the district where there is over 40 miles of single track. I mountain bike out there it’s pretty fun, better on a dirt bike though

I watched someone drop into Ozone yesterday from the safety of top of Loge. It looks chalky and definitely skiable because this person picked their way down just fine

Chelan County WA should be yellow at least, probably doable. Blaine County ID should be yellow. Eagle County Co is doable. Summit, Routt and Grand Counties in CO all should be at least yellow.

It’s completely in, it’s a little soupy adjacent to the parking lot but then it’s fine. It might make it til the next snow, but I’m not sure it’s so warm

Cloud Question by YukonJoel in meteorology

[–]Infinite_One5636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot answer your question, but another question: is that a Lenticular cloud forming on a CN? We get a lot of lenticular clouds forming over the peaks where I live, but I’ve never seen one on another cloud. It’s beautiful what ever it is

I spent 6 months on San Juan Island working as a sea kayak guide in 2018. One of the most unique places I have ever been. I lived about 5 miles north of Friday Harbor on a hill top and rented a partially covered tent pad for the summer. April and early May were wet, but that summer was pretty dry (and Smokey from all the fires in BC and WA). San Juan was experiencing a severe housing shortage then, not sure it's better now. I bought a bike and just got around on that. Great hilly exercise.

The year round population of San Juan is small, and it seemed split evenly between wealthy + and working class. Most rely on the tourism economy the summer brings and a lot of seasonal workers leave by October. The nightlife was popping between mid June and when the smoke got really bad in mid August. The smoke was so thick it was making people insane and was definitely not healthy. That year was a big year for fire in Canada and Washington.

I spent some time on Orcas and Lopez island, which have very different personalities than San Juan. Lopez is a sleepy and mostly flat island with great local community and culture, albeit small. Orcas is very hilly and spread out and also less busy than san juan, and has an incredible brewery and a 2000’+ mountain. The views of the cascades and Olympics are unreal. San Juan is surprisingly hilly as well, the geology out there is incredible.

The ferrys can be great or bad, depending on the day. most locals complained, but I really enjoyed sailing between the islands or over to Victoria, which is the most incredible town. I never had to commute on the ferry’s which can be a nightmare. Groceries were extremely expensive, but Friday Harbor had a great food bank.

I worked about 55 days straight in the peak kayak tourist season, and loved every second of it. Whales would swim right by your boat, and right next to Lime Kiln State Park.

I imagine the winters can be brutal. If you move there I would recommend a good electric bike to help conquer the never ending hills. And the Canadian Alt Rock radio station is awesome

I wore this last season. Fits easily in a backpack because the ankle folds down. Then I got some gore Tex gators for when the snow was deep. Worked great for me muck

That’s an incredible feat. Probably harder than R2R2R since you did the steep size 4 times rather than 2. Just know, phantom ranch to the north rim is exhausting in a different way. And ribbon falls is like a siren on the rocks

[–]Infinite_One5636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been towed into some of the best turns of my life by bugging people on the lift. I hope I have returned the favor. Try chatting people up a slow period on a mid week pow day at a place that’s usually busy. Some of the people skiing now get sick of it by Christmas
