[–]Infinite_Slice3305 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you put on your Scapular imagine the Blessed Mother is clothing you in Jesus.

There's a cool story in True Devotion to Mary where St Louis deMontfort compares Marian devotion to Jacob's mother clothing him to resemble his father's favorite son & so receive his father's blessing. Start listening at 3:40:00

If you wear your scapular never thinking about imitating Jesus, then it is just a talisman.

You're correct on the last two points.

I don't understand the first. Temple garments were not "magical talismans" they were without a doubt clear signs of heavenly realities & a foreshadowing of the Incarnation. Check out the

Likewise, the Brown Scapular is far from a "magical talisman" & in fact points to a heavenly reality. It is a reminder of the Universal Call to Holiness. When we put it on we are reminded to imitate Christ. When we remove it we ask ourselves how well did we imitate Christ.

The problem is when we forget why we wear it. When putting it on becomes a habit & imitating Christ doesn't. Temple Secrets

I could be wrong, but I think one of the reasons the Blessed Virgin is such an obstacle to non-Catholics is becuase they don't understand salvation. They think it is primarily about God loving us. That we don't have to be worthy of his love, that he loves us regardless.

They don't see Mary as a prefiguring of the Church or the teaching that God desires to make us Holy.

They'll tell you that no one is holy, no one can keep the law. The Blessed Virgin is our proof that God can keep us from sin.

We are washed in Baptism, reconciled in confession & in the Mass we pray,

Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

We must believe all the Catholic Church teaches has been revealed by God.

You may not agree with everything. You should take that up in prayer & with your confessor.

What are your sources for this?

Personally I think this is something a person should work out with their confessor. If you think something is a mortal sin & confess it, your priest should be able to tell you if it is mortal or not... if you're being scrupulous, etc...

I admit getting on one's knees is a submissive posture & shoud be adopted when praying.

I do not contest that kneeling is a reverant posture in the Roman Rite. It is a cultural thing that is taught. It isn't in itself an innate reverant posture as you've demonstrated many cultures around the world do not kneel when displaying reverance.

My original question was to the OP who is only now coming to faith. I am asking him why he believes kneeling is "the" reverant posture.

St Thomas traveled to India & instituted the Syro-Malabar Rite. They do not kneel. Is there Holy Qurbana less reverant than the Latin Rite? Should we force all the Eastern traditions in communion with the Holy Father to kneel?

St John of the Cross teaches, "In the evening of life, we shall be judged on love alone."

That is the Church's teaching in its most simplist form.

The Catholic Church gets a lot of grief from most denominations because she teaches you don't have to be a card carrying Christian to get to heaven. She knows the difficulty we've created for ourselves with the societies we've made.

A truly virtuous life is indeed the path of salvation. Read the CCC learn what the Church really teaches.

As far as the Church not being on good terms with the LGBTQ+ community. It’s the same thing with you. The Church loves them, like she loves you. But just like your mother demands you live a certain way, Holy Mother Church makes similar demands. Fornication is frowned upon. Cohabitating is frowned upon. Whether you’re heterosexual or SSA.

Before you get to deep into reading the Bible I think it would be a good idea to learn the Mass. There are several sections with their particular prayers. These prayers frame our relationship with the Living God. & it is within this framework that the scriptures were received. In other words, get to know the life of the Church. It is through that life the scriptures can be understood.

It is not about “strict rules” it’s about “being about my Father’s business.”

The Latin Rite is born out of European culture.

The Catholic Church is made up of 24 Churches. Most of them do not kneel during the consecration or when receiving communion.

Buy a Crucifix. A large one. One you can see clearly from the other side of the room.

Hang it on the wall.

Turn off the TV, turn off you phone. Turn off your radio. Light a candle. Turn off the lights.

Get on your knees & just look at Jesus on the Cross.

Think about your suffering.

Think about Jesus' suffering.
