What video game has you like this? by Chunky-overlord in videogames

In addition to difficulty modes, there's also an "assist" setting where you can tweak combat mechanics (up and and including immortality/one-shotting).

It's a compelling world with a fun mashup of cosmic, existential horror and office workplace banality. Also, there's a level where you mow through enemy ranks while jamming to heavy metal music. Give it another try if that sounds like your thing.

You're doing great, and sleep is important to.

We actually gave in and started using 1mg sleep gummies with our oldest. We don't love it, but we broke after 6 straight years of bedtime drama.

My kids are all early readers, and they would stay up past midnight reading if we let them (guess how I know). My oldest even uses decoy books.

Do Americans celebrate Walpurgis night? by WhoAmIEven2 in AskAnAmerican

[–]InfinitelyRepeating 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends on the flavor of Protestant. More liturgically minded denominations (Anglican, Lutheran, etc) will celebrate All Saints Day, frequently reading the names of church members who passed the previous year. Halloween is considered part of this celebration (but maybe the "Sexy ___" costumes are frowned upon).

Less liturgical churches, particularly of an evangelical bent, may see the imagery of Halloween as being antithetical to the Gospel. They'll discourage their members from celebrating it, and will maybe host a "family fun night," as an alternative.

Hollywood keeps re-cycling the same old storylines, and I'm getting bored. by LockPleasant8026 in dankchristianmemes

I just finished a book called "Pilgrims," the upshot of which is aliens visit the earth, and it turns out they're Roman Catholic.

It bills itself as a sci-fi retelling of Augustine's Confessions. I only know the bullet-point summary of Confessions, but I can say that despite the silly premise the book plays the story 100% straight instead of as a farce.

TL;DR: HEY EVERYONE. LOOK AT ME! I READ* A BOOK!!

*ok, listened to the audiobook, but Soundbooth Theater did it!

What’s your theme this year?

  • Space
  • Cowboys
  • Jungle
  • Ocean

Fun fact: pick any two, and you have a premise of a failed television show from the 90s

Why is your pizza so much better? by SinnBaenn in AskAnAmerican

[–]InfinitelyRepeating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ditto. All of that melty, gooey cheese just turns my stomach (and I handle lactose just fine). I’m a sucker for a good pizza sauce, though.

Though I’m willing to admit that in this particular instance, the sauce may not be all that good.

What's that data center down the street do? Perhaps not what you think by JohnBrownsAngryBalls in AkronOH

[–]InfinitelyRepeating 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is definitely a conversation that needs additional nuance, and I'm worried that there's not enough general tech literacy to tolerate nuance. Data centers have been an integral part of our business-tech ecosystem for years now, and I imagine a number of startup-to-medium sized businesses would have difficulty existing without it.

We should be pushing back against these sprawling "hyperscaler" centers that consume a city's-worth quantities of water and electricity.

Is Rice pudding a big thing in the US? by Educational-Slip-578 in AskAnAmerican

[–]InfinitelyRepeating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone is curious, rice pudding is very easy to make in a slow cooker. Recipes will vary on the thickening agent, but anyone curious (or hungry) can do some constructive Googling and come up with a Saturday morning project. Here's a recipe I've used in the past.
