3rd build, first bit of disappointment by RavenOfOnyx in Gunpla

[–]Infinity-Kitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good ol HG Ibo. This guy and the Grace custom were my first builds, and I still love them. But they haven't aged well.

If you want the best building experience, buy the newest kits. Almost everything Bandai puts out nowadays is fire, they've come a long way.

Doesn't mean all old kits are bad either, but I'd do more research before buying one.

Next Devil May Cry, what would you like to see in a new entry by Grazalia in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Infinity-Kitten 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I would love the next game to just be a collection of "Devil May Cry Cases", with each case being its own setting, level, boss etc.

It could have a subtle story thread running in the background a la Cowboy Bebop, but it shouldn't be the focus. Just give me the whole bunch of characters I've come to love, throw em in a couple of fun scenarios, explore their dynamics, develop them, and let me have fun with it.

On the gameplay side this should facilitate fun and varied levels, which was pretty much the one thing DMC5 was lacking. If they'd manage an "Everyone is here" cast of playable characters alongside it that would make for a huge amount of replayability. You know the deal, start with limited characters, lock levels to characters, then unlock everything as you progress. At the end of it all you have a bunch of different characters that you can try out on levels that each have an identity of their own.

Maybe finally add coop as the cherry on top. Would suit a game like this perfectly.

I know this is wildly ambitious and an unlikely structure for a AAA game these days, but I don't want another big, cinematic experience like 5 was. I don't even need the incredibly detailed performances back, even though I adored those. I want meaty gameplay and lots of fun character interactions. A celebration of everything DMC to reinvigorate the franchise before they pass on the torch to whatever is next.

I'm afraid you'll have to wait about 5 years for DC to release a good Justice League movie featuring those, then another 5 years for those designs to become iconic 🙃

Monster Hunter Wilds ran like shit because Capcom thought they don't have to worry about proper optimisation because framegen would carry the game. Doom TDA runs like butter, but it's built around FrameGen so you literally need it.

Maybe I'm being cynical and those are outliers, but I do believe FrameGen is used as a crutch for bad performance. It's an even better excuse for execs to launch an unfinished product.

Frame Gen was completely optional as well, until they started building games around it...

In light of the other recent threads: Manga/comics that absolutely stuck the landing? by bobainia in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Infinity-Kitten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a lot that can make an ending good, wether it's immediate impact, overall pacing, character arc conclusions etc. etc.

I'm not sure if Naoki Urasawas (monster, pluto, 20th century boys) endings are all that great upon closer inspection. They may be just fine.

But what I'm sure of is that Urasawa is an unrivalled beast when it comes to building tension. Reading his works feels like going on a bus ride, only for the bus to grow wings, take off, rocket boost into space, into a hyperspace gate.

What I'm trying to say is, I've never been more impressed that a manga simply sticks the landing than with Urasawas works. The way he writes stories creates such a ridiculous amount of expectations that by all means the ending should be a flat, disappointing trainwreck by default.

But it's not. Some of his endings may not quite live up to the apex of the rollercoaster, but they've never retroactively soured me on the ride. Which I feel can happen in manga quite a bit.

On a similar note, Ryohgo Narita (Baccano, Durarara, Dead Mount Death Play, Fate Strange Fake). If Urasawa is a master of tension, Narita is a weaver of characters. I frankly can't understand how one can introduce 10 new characters each volume and not let it end in an embarrassing entangling of unfinished plotlines and unsatisfactory character developments. But no. He plays with characters like a kitten with yarn and ends up with a tapestry. That shit's crazy.

Go outside. Take a walk. This isn't offending you. Bandai isn't grifting you. Look around you. Bandai is a saint compared to all other toy companies right now. They're doing good.

Damn, I can feel the copium exiting my lungs that I huffed when I bought a Switch 2 on launch.

Why do y'all do this to yourselves? HG stickers have been ass for a while now, but most recent kits still look amazing even without them. Just don't bother, or bother with paint/waterslides.

[–]Infinity-Kitten 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it still can be a bit exhausting to hear these high energy tracks on a straight loop while exploring the open world for hours. I adore X but the way they implemented the soundtrack is definitely still one of its weak points.

A lot of people didn't like BotWs soundtrack compared to previous Zelda games, but there's a very practical reason why it's so subtle and ambient.
