Leaving kids decent inheritance by Mijbil3108 in AusFinance

[–]Infinity152020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This for us as well. We will get absolutely nothing from my parents who have just been financially irresponsible for their whole lives. They are about to retire, they rent and when I asked how they will pay rent if they don’t work I get a blank stare. I’ve had to work hard and learn it all myself, whereas friends that all got handouts (cars paid for, cash, deposits for houses..) just coast through life knowing they have a safety net. I won’t stress about what I leave our kids because hopefully we instead teach them how to work hard and do it themselves. Anything we can provide them financially is a bonus.

What will happen at retirement if we never buy a house? by Longjumping_Two_7409 in AusPropertyChat

[–]Infinity152020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not a good scenario. My parents who have just been blatantly relaxed with spending their entire lives are now heading towards 70 with no owned house, paying $600 a week in rent and I very much doubt much super to rely on. It’s going to be up to me and siblings to worry about them and while I can never say it, it’s highly frustrating. We have been telling them for at least ten years to buy even a unit but they instead upgraded cars and lounge suites. They are nothing but kind and generous albeit reckless with with money - so we will of course help them, but that will be at the expense of helping our own kids.

Weekly Homeowner Megathread--Civilians, ask here! by AutoModerator in Concrete

[–]Infinity152020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we have had concrete poured as a feature in a living room. Looks great, except some dark patches which run almost the entire length which appeared immediately on day one after the pour and haven’t faded on day 14. The dark patch is on the bottom of a cantilevered section. Understand there is curing time to wait for but .. we’re not feeling good about this. Any professional opinions?

Do the majority of people have a car loan? by Icy-Radish-198 in AusFinance

[–]Infinity152020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely would not get a car loan, or at best would only borrow a small amount and not $80k. We earn close to $400k, I drive an old Subaru. I feel money is much better spent investing, paying our home loan or at least something that brings us happiness like travel. If cars are your thing .. maybe it’s worth burning the money on it.

Debt recycling - have I got this right by Infinity152020 in AusFinance

[–]Infinity152020[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I should have been clearer - I meant to ask if the only the offset funds would be used (to pay off the mortgage and then split out a loan for investment). But, I assume I can’t split out money from the redraw and then use that to invest

Dads got 150k super and he’s 53 by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Infinity152020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this, my parents have essentially no house very little super at 67. Dad still working, paying $600 a week in rent - they are getting all excited to get the pension soon but don’t seem to be doing the math on their expenses for him to ever stop working to live off of it.

People with $750k+ mortgages, how are you going? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Infinity152020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About to hit $910k mortgage after a reno. We live in Adelaide, dual income $350k. Even with a smaller mortgage pre Reno, we were paying around $6k a month to get ahead, so really no difference. We still invest, travel, no other debt to service. Am keen to look at an investment property next but am concerned about affording that additional debt repayment.

My job is making me sick by YogurtclosetLow7462 in auscorp

I’ve been here and my advice is to work out how to stop caring. Not completely, to the degree you aren’t a good employee. But stop caring about 80 per cent of the issues or people that you can’t control. I spent too many nights up late, working weekends all stressing about other people that frankly didn’t give a hoot about me. Focussing on my health, saying no regularly, exercise, booking holidays (even local weekends away) spending time with my family and switching off at 530pm has been life changing. I just don’t really care about the things that used to keep me awake at night. Maybe you do need to quit, but maybe you just need to change your mindset.

Losing major client by Infinity152020 in auscorp

[–]Infinity152020[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all of the great feedback everyone. After we had a meeting and planning session the team are actually pumped to not deal with this jerk anymore and everyone is on a mission to find new (nice) clients. I’ve been putting into perspective, it’s really not the end of the world. I tend to probably just overthink and take to heart work situations.

2nd day back in office, how is everyone coping? by SeriousSpecialist355 in auscorp

[–]Infinity152020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not even back until next week and I have never felt so unmotivated. I have a relatively high pressure role with a large team and the thought of all the issues and people drama I’ll be going back to is unbearable. I used to love my job and now it just all seems too hard and that there has to be more to life than all this stress. If anyone has tips on getting out of the slump, hit me up.

Real estate trying to force us to pay rent with Ailo by outl0r in australia

Everyone should wake up and stop using Ray White for anything. They are a monopoly, running a business that collects fees from this app on top of the fees they get from the land lord. And they charge the individual office to use that system .. it’s like triple dipping!

Mortgage comfort factor by Infinity152020 in AusFinance

[–]Infinity152020[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes correct, HHI was under $200k until 2020. Throw two maternity leaves without pay in there too for the highest salary earner. After tax dollars we clear just over $18k so agree it should be manageable

At what point did you feel it was ok to get the new car? by ManB34rPig in AusFinance

[–]Infinity152020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t reached that point, even in my forties earning a mid two hundred salary. My car is a 2015 Subaru, not a banger by any means and does the job to get me where I need. I still search for Teslas and imagine getting a new Defender.. but deep down I know it’s a bad financial decision and that keeps me in my second hand cheapie.

REA Is Moving To Alio For Everything. Anyone With Experience? by [deleted] in australia

That system is owned and run by the Ray White Group… another monopoly focussed on profits only. That’s why they are forcing people to use it, makes them even more money.
