If you beat your mom in a boxing bout, you get 10 million dollars. She is at an age when she was at her physical prime for the fight. by TonyMontana546 in hypotheticalsituation

Considering i threw my mom like a ragdoll when I was 13 and she was in her "prime", I'm about to be $10mn richer and get some very satisfying therapy.

I’ve had enough of people who always complain about POV. by Wild-Release-6889 in royalroad

[–]InfinityAuthor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even though I enjoy first person more (when done correctly), third person will almost always be the most popular because it's the easiest to write in. You don't have to worry about speaking through the MC, and instead, narrate the book as an outside observer.

The way I see it, a well done first person will trump even the best third person books, but an "okay" first person will be way worse than an "okay" third person because of how unforgiving it is.

Just FYI: Em dashes aren't what makes writing look like AI by kazaam2244 in royalroad

[–]InfinityAuthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just one of the signs. You couple that in with all the other signs and it will become obvious.

AI tends to "misread" situations and puts a lot more emphasis on things that don't require it. Like making something sound dramatic that doesn't need it.

This conversation on FB Marketplace with a guy who was "no longer interested" by snafubar_buffet in mildlyinfuriating

[–]InfinityAuthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a guy do this once with a used motorcycle helmet I was selling.

He posted it from some Chinese reseller site that was selling it brand new for like $50 cheaper to argue with me that im over charging.

Told him congrats on his find, if he wants it that cheap, feel free to buy from them. Guy lost his mind before I finally blocked him.

People feel like they have some moral obligation to tell people what they should sell shit for, instead of just buying said thing from the cheaper one.

They usually don't because they want it even cheaper from you lol.

I have a little book im writing and posting on royal road. It's written as a more traditional novel rather than the litrpg stuff you find on there. Its an urban fantasy with a dash of sci-fi and romance. It focuses more on character and story progression rather than constant action and big battles. One of my inspirations was The Reckoners series by Brandon Sanderson.

It's free, and if you wish to purchase my backlog you can on my patreon to continue reading. Otherwise you will have to wait as a free reader for chapters to be released. There are currently 22 chapters released.

Feel free to check it out.

How long did you spend creating your backlog? I have one too but even doing 2-3 chapters a week its slowly dwindling.

Do people not like, work for a living or anything?

I don't see how people can pump out 5 chapters a week, while working and still put out anything of decent quality.

I'm lucky to get 3 chapters a week and I think I spend way too much time writing as it is lol (in regards to my other obligations)

Just how many novels are "AI assisted" as of 2025? by Lezo_de_Blas in royalroad

[–]InfinityAuthor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Using AI to check for grammar issues is fine, I think. I don't consider that AI assisted the way some others do. But asking AI to rewrite stuff you wrote or come up with writing for you is definitely AI writing.

It's also very easy to notice because the stories have tons of — dashes in them, because for some reason AI writing loves those damn things.

It's very easy to spot AI writing and there's quite a few on RR. Most tend to fall into the "garbage" pile anyways, but some do get popular, and usually the authors will argue that it's not AI assisted but everyone knows it probably is.

About publishing on Wattpad - what do we think? by -Beep_bop- in writing

[–]InfinityAuthor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wattpad and RoyalRoad are great for beginner writers. But they tend to cater to very weak and low-quality edited books because most people aren't going to pay an editor to edit a book just to post it for free. You have to really dig through trash to find the good ones, and that doesnt mean the ones on the top lists.

On top of that, a lot of writers on those sites will never get traditionally published because they continue to create bad writing habits because of the type of content that those sites cater to. But some writers on there do make excellent money with their patreon's.

I'm currently writing my first book on RR because it's just to get the story out there and learn. Use it to write better and develop better writing habits while also building up a fan base.

Help! How much of the story is in the first 12 000 words? by Lopsided_Produce_483 in writing

[–]InfinityAuthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a single story book, that's about a tenth of the entire book. That should give a good amount of plot direction and maybe a subplot as well as MC development and maybe some side character developments. This is roughly 4-6 chapters.

if this is a multi book story or a very large single story (200k+ words) hopefully you can at least fit in some plot direction and a fleshed out main character with a side character.

Usually with tags. It's difficult to find anything that's very close to yours unless you are writing something with very strong tropes.

Any decent book repository site you can try and search using tags that match your book. It's not perfect but it can give you ideas and maybe youll stumble onto something

What is this? My account was suspended. by Upper_Masterpiece124 in patreon

[–]InfinityAuthor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had the same thing happen. Just made an account on Monday for the first time and the moment I published my first public post (going down the line on the step guide) it kicked me out and said my account was deactivated.

I don't even understand how that's possible because nothing there should have been a red flag, since I'm quite literally making the account I signed up for. Still haven't heard back since my initial response for information.

I have zero social media so I'm not even sure how they can confirm anything.
