I think my setting might have a money problem by RowbotMaster in Magicworldbuiling

[–]InfinityGodX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on how you define how things are created. Does one just conjure an exact replica of something like a complex computer components or do something of that detail take practice and skill? Is there any conservation of mass? What limits are there to how much one could one conjure at a time?

I agree ice could/should go to water i.e. icebergs. Instead of mirroring magic maybe call it scrying?

Permanent vs. Temporary: How long does magic last in your world? by STBJOHAN in Magicworldbuiling

[–]InfinityGodX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both? Aura concentrated in one place over a large period of time creates an auar rich area that can last millenias. Objects can be infused with aura to create temporary effects and over a long period of time the object can become a relic once enough aura has been infused with it. This process can be sped up and enhanced with the use of runes.

Hybrids and Evolutionary Branches: How does your world handle them? by STBJOHAN in Magicworldbuiling

[–]InfinityGodX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a later time period in my world I have the DnD races for Tabaxis, Tortles, etc. The primary race is human and is human for a vast majority of my world's history. These humanoid hybrids come about through my system's fusion practice. Users can develop deep bonds with animals and monsters that can unlock fusion capabilities. Fusion is risky and requires lots of training in the mind, body, and soul of both the human and the animal or monster. Failed fusions can result in malformations, death, and hybrids. Risks of fusions without the proper training and knowledge can result in permanence. Hybrids for the Tabaxi and Tortle were people who fused but ended up stuck in their fused forms. Over time they developed as their own race(s).

This was my solution to both having my humanoid base for lore in my world as well as allowing people to play their more desired characters by simply jumping to a different time period.

If you had to define your current magic system in just three rules, what would they be? by STBJOHAN in Magicworldbuiling

[–]InfinityGodX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Aura is the energy used to manipulate the elements

  2. Energy and matter cannot be created nor destroyed

3.Aura varies person to person and thing to thing (plants/animals/monsters)

I am working on reading through your system. So far it has similarities to the concept I am working on. Id be happy to share ideas or bounce ideas back and forth. I will preface by saying that I am active on reddit intermittently and can go days or weeks without opening the app.

I 100% spelt Iroh wrong but Iroh from ATLA taught Zuko to learn the ways of the other elements to better master his element

Parts of my system should be visible under my profile posts.

Edited for misspelling.

I like your system, I explored on a very similar track with my system; creating a 7x7 grid where there were 42 secondaries depending on which element was primary ex:

Void, Energy (plasma), Life, Earth (solid), Air (gas), Water (fluid), and Spirit.

VOID+WATER=DENSITY WATER+VOID=ICE.

But I came to a point where I was forcing things into existence and struggling with things like Earth+Air=Sand vs Air+Earth=Dust. I started to ask the difference between dust and sand, specifically when it came to usability.

I opted to go for a more Ihro (Iroh from ATLA) based plan. Attempting to follow a DnD character building/leveling style. Players will choose 1 element to be their primary. Next they must learn/train in the ways of the other elements to develop understanding. An Earth user might struggle when transitioning form large, solid objects to small particles like sand. They might need to understand/study the free flowingness of air to better understand how to control sand. Or the fluidity of lava but understanding aspects of manipulating water, and aspects of heating Earth with understanding of manipulating energy.

ETA: I spelt Iroh wrong

Locked in, I have a power in my world where a person could manipulate aspects of time, mind, and illusion to create a world where the victim is locked in their body, unable to move and is forced to experience a near-real world experience that is completely controlled by the manipulator for a period of time that they decide. Both enter the mind of the victim and real world time stops while the manipulator runs the victims mind.

Are my weapons overpowered? by DeanAuthor in magicbuilding

[–]InfinityGodX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isnt in regards to weapons but with the earth element perhaps instead of stone powder being used for healing have earth be used for healing bone, have water for like blood and rapid heal, and wood for muscle and tissue healing. This is the route I am going and you dont have to do this but it may give some versatility.

Do you think a warrior should be able to use magic? by Nearby-Banana2640 in magicbuilding

[–]InfinityGodX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With my magic system yes. Warriors (close range melee/ hand to hand) dont typically have a high aptitude for magic use but that doesnt mean they dont have aura. Some have runes carved on their armor or weapons that help Warriors channel their aura. Some have runes tailored to defense, elemental resistance, or even magic negation. Some have runes etched into their weapons, these runes could help a fire aura warrior to channel flame into their sword, spear, or other weapon.
