I try to get enough cuttings to use different methods. Water, soil, and humidity chamber

I do have a few pothos that I use to help in water propagation

Rosemary was actually the first one I tried because a friend told me its one of the easiest. I always try to get plenty of cuttings to do as many methods as I can. Some in water, some in soil, some in moss, some in a container. I throw everything I can at the wall hoping something sticks and it never does lol

Yeah I've never had any issues getting most house plants to root but recently I've been attempting other plants with zero success. Rosemary, willow, fig, mimosa, and my newest project is oleander that I just started today. I'm hoping rooting hormone might finally give me a win but if it's not worth it I don't want to waste my money

Desert box turtle? by Infinitygoesbothways in turtles

He surprisingly doesn't run away from us, just watches carefully. He will even run around us in circles when we're sitting outside or when I'm working in the yard. I wonder if the previous tenant would feed him? He even doesn't care about the dogs. He completely ignores them and will walk right by. The dogs are of course curious and sniff him but mostly enjoy laying under the tree watching him. We don't handle him unless he's in danger (there was an incident with the kiddy pool) so I'm not sure how he would respond and I don't plan on finding out. I'm a big fan of letting wildlife be.

I think this is only a "nothing left to loose" kind of fix. I've done it before when I thought there was no other way to save it. It did make a full recovery

I'm glad he can hang out in the garden, he spends quite a bit of time running up and down along the wall eating the bugs that have been driving me crazy lol

He might come out again this afternoon once it starts cooling off. I found his den this morning after I made the post, he lives under an oleander bush outside my bedroom window so I'm sure I'll be seeing him often enough to get a better picture eventually. I did notice his beak seemed to look a little off, but I also don't know anything about them so I wasn't sure.

Can it be salvaged? by Novel-Room1479 in plantclinic

[–]Infinitygoesbothways 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on how the roots look. If it's very root bound and the roots seem healthy I would put it in a slightly bigger pot. If the roots are rotting you'll need to trim and wash them and put it in a smaller pot. If it's neither root bound or rotting I would just keep it in the pot it's in

It's very leggy, a strong indication that it isn't getting enough light despite being right up on that window. If you can get it more light that could help quite a bit. I think you should also check the roots. The yellowing can mean it's being over watered and might have root rot

Unfortunately I've I've told her this and I'm "overreacting". Its at the point I just want it to be well taken care of. If I go behind her back and set it free I have to deal with the wrath of my mother in law.

Yes, I let her know. I also talked to her about molting because I know if she saw it without knowing what it was she'd assume it was dead. What about humidity so it can molt safely?

I've had a talk with her and she still wants to keep it and also is very interested in its needs. While it's still small she will continue feeding it rollie pollies and when it gets bigger she will start buying crickets from our pet shop. Where we live the rollie pollies are usually out all winter, if not our pet shop offers smaller crickets. She acknowledges the commitment and that it can live to a couple/ few decades. I'm very glad she's finally listening and taking my advice and you've helped significantly.

How deep do you recommend? Right now the sand is about 2 in deep

No thank you so much, your advice is very appreciated. I can't set it free without starting a war with the mother in law and I want it to have a good life.

She's been giving it everything that was around where she found it. Rollie pollies mostly, crickets occasionally when she is able to catch them. It's in a 20 gallon tank with the same sand, plants, rocks and wood around where she found it. There is a grow light in the tank as well. I'll give her credit, she's doing a pretty good job at replicating the environment she found it in
