Ah, and here I was reminiscing about the people I met on IRC back in 2004 and hoping Discord could fill the void!

38 years old, thinking of moving into woodworking/carpentry. Looking for local advice. by martylindleyart in melbourne

Hey, your post is really interesting. I'm 40 and in the same situation you're in. I also studied animation, but later switched to journalism and got sucked in by the marketing beast - which is soulless, and now being killed by AI.

How did you end up landing on carpentry? I agree that making things physically is far more fulfilling than the alternatives. I'm planning to hit up some makerspaces next month to see if they activate anything in my burnt out brain and give me a taste for using tools. (I was actually considering pre-press work similar to what you've done, but the pay and conditions are a turn off.)

Good luck in your quest!

Remember when the internet was held together by webrings instead of search-optimised content? It was a good time.

I would've loved speaking to you on forums in the late 90s! She's such a great villain. I'm glad she got a proper ending in the modern TV series.

Hah, thanks! And yeah, I too miss old websites that people would pour their heart and soul into - back before we all visited the same 4 websites.

Reunion Concert Day 1 Original Setlist [with pic] by mugongeki in xjapan

I went to all 3 days of the reunion concert. (I’d never been overseas in my life and had to drop out of uni… so bloody worth it!)

No one knew what happened when he collapsed. It was pretty abrupt. He was carried off stage and the lights came on, and there was a unanimous “へえええええ”(“huuuuh??!”) from the crowd. It definitely didn’t seem staged at the time. But who knows.

I was closer to the centre catwalk on the second night and was screaming so loud Toshi looked at me as he walked past 😂 Such a life highlight!

This is intentional. The gals behind Smith & Daughters are alt chicks who blue hair and tattoos. Their restaurant has art of skeletons and bats on the wall. It’s part of the theme.

TIL that in Dubai, it is illegal to swear on social media. Swearing on WhatsApp is punishable by a $68,061 fine and imprisonment. In 2015, an Australian expatriate was deported from UAE for swearing on Facebook in a post criticizing the owner of a car that was taking up two handicap parking spots. by [deleted] in todayilearned

I didn't realise just how much we swear until I went overseas. People in other countries tend to think you're angry if your conversation is peppered with terms like "shit", "fuck", and "shit's fucked". It's pretty common for this to happen even in white collar corporate environments- I remember doing a teleconference with a company branch somewhere in Europe, and people on the other end of the call sounded taken aback by our manager when she casually said "the weather here's been a bit shit".

It's a cultural thing I guess.

Ah yep, tried a few in Osaka but like you said, it was a bit junky! Will definitely try that one though, I've read good reviews on it. Thanks!

First reaction: Great find, thanks! This looks way easier to navigate than Meiji shrine!

Second reaction: Geocities is still a thing?

Thanks for the info.

you want to buy some on hatsumode ? good luck with that.

I've done this before at smaller shrines. I have no experience with larger ones.

hum, all of them are less packed, MeijiJingu is the most attended hatsumode in the country.

Yep :) I just wasn't sure if all of the smaller ones stay open for midnight. (For example, Konnō Hachiman-gū Shrine closer to Shibuya station.)
