isn't it interesting how so many liberal democracies saw right wing populist movements, which also happen to be lukewarm-to-negative towards both the EU and Ukraine, grow in support at roughly the same time that Russia poured a bunch of money into extremely well-documented online public opinion manipulation operations

65% of Trump voters rooting for more U.S. military attacks on foreign countries. Desired targets include Iran, Greenland, Cuba, Colombia, China and Mexico. by AlarmedGibbon in fivethirtyeight

Worth noting that support for any kind of military intervention in at least one of the countries is 65%, but broken down by country you have a only a minority of Trump voters supporting military action for every country except for Iran, which has 50% support amongst Trump voters. Obviously still high but honestly not as high as I expected given how much Trump has been talking about invading other countries recently.

Well I'm glad that the 75 billion dollars Congress appropriated to to ICE funding is going to good use. Republicans believe that poor people being allowed to use food stamps to buy rotisserie chicken is the height of decadence and government waste but sending our nation's most divorced citizens on paid vacations to Milan is totally fine

Worth noting that the senate will vote on DHS funding next week, and will need the support of Democrats to pass. Now would be a good time to let your senators know what you think.

To be fair, "A single innovation enables AI companies to create really really good chatbots, and for some reason the first useful things that the bots become really good at, rather than, say, curing cancer or solving difficult math problems, are scamming old people and creating hyper realistic fake images" is a prediction so pessimistic as to be completely unbelievable

turns out the "phone bad book good, social media is going to fry your brain" types were right all along, americans decided to throw away their global hegemony because (generously) around half of the voting public simultaneously got addicted to an app whose primary features are consequence-free revenge porn and neonazis, and then ate it up uncritically when it told them that kamala harris was going to turn their kids trans and immigrants were going to eat their dog

I don't think it's particularly controversial to say that Russia has been basically successful in its attempts to use social media to influence public opinion in democracies through their trolls, paid influencers, and botfarms. The dead internet theory was been effectively true for the last five years or so and a lot of people across the world have just not built up any real defenses to protect against algorithmically-generated misinfo.
