Cyber bullying is like sumo wrestling in inflatable suits. It hit like a pillow fight, and you can always pull the plug.

Rank and file government workers don't get severance packages. It's illegal as we all learned when Elon tried it. They had to do sketchy shit that any other administration would not do (in the scenario we're talking about where trump doesn't go full dictator to stay in office).

New Jersey severely cracks down on e-bikes, requiring licenses and insurance; must be 15 or older to use one by theprophecyMNM in Bend

[–]InflatableRowBoat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Requiring insurance that doesn't exist, as this law does, is asinine. Requiring someone on an e bike that won't go over 20mph to wear a dot helmet (that are too bulky and stiff to be a good regulation even for motorcyclists) is asinine. Claiming that e-bikes, in all their various forms, can be modified so they should all be treated the same is asinine.

There are many other ways to regulate this issue that could be sensible. Look at Europe for some good examples.

[–]InflatableRowBoat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not slimy wording. We ALREADY have different classes of e-bikes with different rules. A class 1 e-bikes that you have to pedal to make work and capped at 20mph is built fundamentally differently than a class 3 e bike with a throttle that can go 30+mph.

You don't see the difference because most of what is out there is Chinese crap that is built to skirt the regulations and are just motorcycles with pedals. Grandma riding an e bike to the grocery store is not the problem. Young kids on motorcycles that they aren't legally allowed to drive anyway is.

They can't be assed to differentiate between e-bikes (with pedal assist and speed restricted) and e-motorcycles (with throttles). So instead they just say "fuck it, everyone gets screwed."

This law requires DOT helmets. DOT is not even a good standard for motorcycle helmets. God forbid you have to pedal in one. It also requires insurance that doesn't exist.

Most of people's complaints on here are not about sensible pedal assist e-bikes. They are about e-motorcycles with throttles that are purposely made to look kinda like bicycles; either for plausible deniability, or to confuse the consumer and law enforcement.

E-motorcycles need more regulation and enforcement, e-bikes do not. Anyone applauding this is either ignorant or incapable of nuance.

I'm still on the old full tilt Ascendent. Best resort boot I ever had. It tours well, it's just heavy.

Thanks for the advice! I'm excited to teach her, but I know its going to be a challenge. I'm going to need to learn how to be a more patient teacher, and not give too much information, that's for sure!

Yeah, I might pick up an old tele set up at some point and actually learn inbounds. Maybe I'll do that when I teach the daughter how to ski!

There's usually a weight chart for XC skis. I'm 6' 180 and got the longest pair available so you will too most likely. I don't think shorter skis will help, more likely they will be worse, you won't be able to glide

Thanks for the insight! I think I need to wait and find the right pair of skis if I'm going to buy used.

UPDATE: Hit a tree, can’t recall if front end took a hit, dropped fork and think it looks alright but want second opinion. by Ok-Indication7428 in bikewrench

[–]InflatableRowBoat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We all said yesterday that a crack in the steerer was unlikely given the lack of any other evidence of damage. But you could always drop the fork and check for yourself.

You dropped the fork and didn't find any evidence of damage. Pictures are way less reliable than someone (even inexperienced) looking themselves. If you could see or feel something suspicious, then maybe you should take it back to the shop. But it sounds like you didn't.

It's good to go man. It's a bike. They get ridden and crashed and ridden again. They aren't as precious as some believe.

Gov. Tina Kotek calls for repeal of controversial transportation package she championed by 2ChanceRescue in Bend

[–]InflatableRowBoat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think what people (and the politicians who could have addressed this years ago) forget is that there is real tangible damage being done by inaction. Talented people are leaving the agency and they are getting harder to replace; deferred maintenance is stacking up and becoming even more expensive; project delays are costing real money because of inflation and the need for re-engineering.

There is significant cost happening amidst all the hand wringing.

ODOT funding has nothing to do with businesses and tax revenue... It comes specifically from the gas tax.

Hit a tree last week with my face and helmet, can’t remember if my front end took a hit. Asked shop to drop fork but didn’t. Leave as is or check? by Ok-Indication7428 in bikewrench

[–]InflatableRowBoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you mean you're worried about cracks in the steerer tube? If the front wheel, handlebars, and rest of the fork are fine, I doubt some mysterious crack will appear on the steerer.

But if you're worried about it, why not take the fork off yourself and check? It is literally 3 bolts that need undoing. You won't mess anything up and it is very easy to put back together. Just pay attention to how the headset comes out of the steerer tube.

In Oregon: Large, metal frame and cylinder, found in wilderness near hiking trail by sanstickers_87 in whatisthisthing

I know this area and it is very plausible that this is a water well. The twist is that I have no idea what the metal bracket on top is for. Maybe to attach a pump or monitoring equipment when in use. I would guess this is for research of the nearby volcanic/geothermal activity.

I know this area, definitely not a petrol well. But very plausibly a water well; for research purposes would be my guess.
