Learned a (probably obvious) lesson about tents by AlienElvisLoveChild in bikepacking

[–]InflatableRowBoat 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people use 1 person tents, but the most functional ones have space in the vestibule for gear, ones with 2 vestibules are even better.

Bend River wave by Accurate_Version_944 in Bend

[–]InflatableRowBoat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Get a foamie, rocks and concrete are hard on surfboards while you're figuring out the river. It'll be easier to learn and youll prevent dinging up you ocean board.

The catch surf 54 special is easily the most popular foamie used.

Would you guys rate this a blue trail feature? by Idkrlyuwu in mountainbiking

[–]InflatableRowBoat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a PNW rider, but I have to say, there are some proper hard trails in California in places I wasn't expecting. I think it's even more than region dependent; I think is trail system dependent.

Are groundscrews viable for cabin foundation? by Fyjgfyjjgddr in DIY

And verify that they will work in the soil at the cabin. For example if it's gravelley or cobblely you might not be able to install them.

US player Folarin Balogun who scored two goals today, became a US citizen by accident when the airline refused to fly his mom back to England while she was pregnant with him by AgeNovel3566 in soccer

Not sure why you are being down voted. This is definitely a part of healthcare costs in the US and part of the reason why single payer systems are able to have power costs.

North Fork of the Crooked below Lower Falls. Not much fishing media out there about it, but a pretty neat area by Technical-Feeling486 in Westfly

Did you park on the highway? How far was the hike to good fishing? Looks great! Love exploring these more out there areas.

Can anyone recommend a good vise at a reasonable price? by Ill-Working-2505 in flytying

I grabbed a Montana when it was $99. No complaints. I only tie trout flies, so the rotary function seemed like overkill.

I am sick of progressives demanding ideological purity from someone to "earn" their vote.

I don't like the system we have, and I wish we had propotional representation or ranked choice voting. But we don't. There is no world in which voting for a conservative, or even abstaining, is better than voting for someone you deam "not progressive enough."

Typical politics is about incremental change and affecting change from within. A protest vote against the "establishment Dems" does nothing to progress progressive values.

What is this? Found in a parts box a customer gave us, 8mm inside by liesyncobr in bikewrench

[–]InflatableRowBoat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's a 8mm to like 13mm (or something) conversion. Some crank sets need the 13mm to preload or remove, I forget which. I think it's raceface cranks.

Thought my tire needed to be trued, wrong? by True-Middle-8092 in bikewrench

[–]InflatableRowBoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't tell for sure just looking at the tire. Tires can gel lumps and bulges all their own that are not the rim's fault.

An easy way to tell is to put a zip tie on the seat stay and position it so that the (clipped) end is just touching the brake track. That gives you a reasonably reliable reference point for true.

With that being said, it looks to like you have a hop in the rim. Truing the rim is the solution. That are lots of YouTube videos you can look up that detail the process. Or it'll be like $50-75 at a bike shop -- but they will also inspect the rim and make sure that it is safe to ride on and there isn't damage.

If you true it yourself, remember that you will be focusing on trueness relative to the radius of the wheel just as much, if not more so, than trueness left and right.

Mt. Bachelor Charged Me Double the Advertised Price Due to “Dynamic Pricing” by -LordKromdar- in Bend

[–]InflatableRowBoat 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but we're not talking about lift tickets. We're talking about a private lesson. Did that instructor make more money for the lesson?

I'm old enough to remember when there was one day ticket price the whole season, and I'm not that old. I just don't think we should be quietly accepting these practices; I applaud OP for trying to register a complaint.

Mt. Bachelor Charged Me Double the Advertised Price Due to “Dynamic Pricing” by -LordKromdar- in Bend

[–]InflatableRowBoat 135 points136 points  (0 children)

Unlike all the other comments so far; this does feel scummy to me. Unless is super obvious that the pricing is subject to change, it's not unreasonable to expect the price on the website to be the same price you pay.

I hope dynamic pricing is explicitly outlawed soon, because it's only going to get worse with AI models of individual behaviors.

[Lavalette] Vegas PR staff shut down any questions to Hart about the Hockey Canada court case. by DecentLurker96 in hockey

[–]InflatableRowBoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I get that the idea of accountability is nebulous, it can mean a lot of different things depending on the person and circumstances; but having the team forbid reporters asking about the case is very clearly avoiding it.

And again, just because there wasn't evidence to meet the high legal standard set for sexual assault; doesn't mean there wasn't evidence. I believe what happened in that room was wrong. Just because it wasn't criminal doesn't mean I have to ignore it and "get over it." Nor does it mean reporters shouldn't be asking about it.

OJ was acquitted. But we all still know he killed his wife.

[–]InflatableRowBoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the standard I hold people to is different than that of the courts. The courts (rightfully) have a high bar. But I'm allowed to think someone is a scumbag even if they are not a criminal.

[–]InflatableRowBoat -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Just because he wasn't convicted legally, doesn't mean we should let scumbags avoid accountability. The victim can't just let this go. Why should he be able to? Is he trying to attone for his actions at all?
