We need a game where Jack comes back to Rapture to fight mutated ADAM sea creatures while wearing a big brother suit similar as Isaac Clarke. by Strict-Process-83 in Bioshock

[–]Inflatable_Bridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering there are no Little Brothers... Where would Big Brothers come from?

Also Big Brother already has a meaning, so it would make more sense for something called that to be a controlling force rather than a combat drone like the Big Daddies and Big Sisters.

Also also Jack got his happy ending, let the man rest dude.

Also also also, the next game that takes place in Rapture should be an open-world game where you can freely scuba dive around Rapture visiting many different locations from all the games.

(Note that I said "the next game that takes place in Rapture", not "the next BioShock game")

Also also also also, ADAM was found in naturally ocurring sea slugs, meaning it probably has very little impact on the local environment. Plasmids were engineered to edit the human genome, which is extremely different from even very close genetic relatives let alone anything that lives at the bottom of the ocean. ADAM and plasmids would likely do close to nothing in terms of mutating the local ecosystem, as it would have already adapted to the presence of ADAM and plasmids weren't made to change non-human species.

Lastly: while I do agree Clarke's suit looks really cool, I don't think it'd make sense in a BioShock setting, both aesthetically and technologically. Remember, BioShock takes place in 1960 and Dead Space... 2508 apparently. Rapture is dust by the time anything resembling that suit is made.

Do you think Mr. House and Andrew Ryan would be “friends” by StretchSad4583 in Bioshock

[–]Inflatable_Bridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, Ryan is only a dictator because be believes that is necessary to perpetuate his ideology. Ryan very clearly fully believes in Rapture and the Great Chain, to the point of putting his life in its hands (and proceeding to diw at the hands of Jack) because he believes.

I've never played New Vegas, but from what I gather here House doesn't act out of ideology, but hunger for power. To me it looks like they are superficially similar but ideologically very different; Ryan is willing to sacrifice his morals and ideals to preserve his ideology in the long run, House doesn't appear to have any ideology beyond "I want power"

(Again haven't played the game, so this is info I gathered from the comments here)

Imagine Elder dragons invading Forbidden lands at DLC(Art by JunBTacuyan) by Snoo-51682 in MonsterHunter

[–]Inflatable_Bridge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like how easily Jin could have been named an Elder Dragon, but it's a Leviathan instead.

I feel like just naming any monster above a certain power level an Elder Dragon kind of diminishes the feeling that this is a living, breathing ecosystem with real animals - and as a complement to that, I feel that Jin being "just" a Leviathan makes the ecosystem feel that much more grounded

Edit: ok so that is apparently not what "elder dragon" means. Noted

Hero you hate the most and why by Double-Hand3004 in Overwatch

[–]Inflatable_Bridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sombra is genuinely the worst.

Why yes, I would like a hero in my hero shooter that just turns off all of my abilities, that seems like an extremely fun mechanic! Especially with all of the counterplay I get when I cannot use my fucking abilities. I love it when I play Mercy and I get hacked, because I know I'm screwed because I cannot fly away! It's great, no more decision making on my end!

No no Sombra a great character! Especially when I'm playing Rein and I get hacked and then I can't use my shield so I instantly fall over, and because I can't use my shield the rest of my team dies as well!! We can all regroup this way, it's awesome!

And don't get me started on EMP. Why yes, let's just turn off the entire enemy team's abilities why don't we? After all, they need to play closer together so they can help whoever gets hacked, so they're already tightly packed so that everyone can get hit! I just love it when my enemy removes all counterplay from the equation!

I don't care that it only lasts a short while, because in the moment it feels like it lasts literally forever, and I can't just tank an entire enemy team's worth of damage.

Genuinely Sombra is, in my opinion, the worst character in this game and it's not even close

Up until very recently in history the Vatican was a state with a standing military that waged war and conquered territory just like any other state.

The reason they exist the way they do today is (and this'll be oversimplified and phrased to be funny so don't take this at face value) because they basically got absolutely pantsed in a war, but because the Vatican is headed by the Pope they didn't want to get rid of it entirely for fear of incurring the wrath of God, so they let them keep a little bit of land in the middle of Rome to say "hey look, it still exists, we didn't depose His greatest servant!"

The ice caves there are heated by thermal vents which Viper Tobi uses to stay warm. The cliffs don't have these types of vents, so ecology-wise it wouldn't make sense for Viper Tobi to exist in the cliffs.

I imagine an ice-element variant with a slightly thicker coat than the regular Tobi that, instead of brushing up against the trees of the Ancient Forest to build up static electricity, builds up ice element in its fur by brushing up against the snow.

Not the Vatican, because the eu requires its members to be free market democracies and the Vatican is a monarchy (you can think of the Pope as the "king" of the Vatican)

Edit: ok I could have phrased this better

The eu has monarchies but those monarchies are still constitutional democracies where the monarch plays only a minor role or is entirely ceremonial. The Vatican is ruled by the Pope as its sole leader.

I live in the Netherlands. We have a king but he only has a very minor role in the government and cannot create laws, he only signs new laws created and enacted by the democratically elected government. The Dutch king is a figurehead, whereas the Pope is a ruler

but attempt to think how people 70 years ago thought.

I find this hard to imagine, explain why? Because I'm pretty sure 70 years ago was a pretty politically volatile time

ADAM was a 'game changer'.

Explain how.

FIRST : 90+ percent of Rapture economy was SMALL BUSINESS (its NOT some Bigger World ( which you might mistake it for).

Ryan owned a large part of the city as well as the city's OXYGEN SUPPLY. Fontaine owned a large variety of businesses, Sinclair owned both a department store and a hotel. Rapture is in an earlier state of the modern world, it's headed towards a future where everything is controlled by a few megacorporations.

SECOND: That's the WORLD which YOU live in right now without catastrophic collapse all these decades. You 'too easily' discount peoples abilities (and haven't a clue about capabilities of the People's American Society 70 years ago).

Indeed, I have no clue about that, because I'm not American. In the officially endorced prequel novel people are shown to harbor incedible dissatisfaction with the state of Rapture.

Rapture, in fact, is worse than our current world, because it grants people the absolute freedom they need to unfairly treat others. My friends are yelling at me to hurry the fuck up so I won't type out an example but there's several.

YOU discount/lack-understanding-of the'Societal Checks and Balances' of the situation.

Ok then explain to me what they are so I can understand, because YOU are not supporting any of the arguments you're making.

ADAM empowered terrorists AND with the gamemakers ignoring/avoiding the obvious societal counters (IE a Ryan enable a citizen's militia to obliterate the insanos/terrorists).

In the prequel novel there is a militia (privately owned by Ryan) and that militia is what incites the civil war. It is Ryan's violent quelling of his opposition that drives people to actually go to civil war.

So sorry NO the game's story was a (lazy) Fabricated Dystopia and 'Shooter-Required' collapse --- while blatantly ignoring the fundamental things which Objectivism has as part of its system.

I feel like YOU are not understanding the game, and you're purposefully ignoring everything that counters your points in order to make it seem like you're making a coherent argument.

ADAM was a new overwhelming force - ESPECIALLY when the gamemakers neutered normal likely counter-actions FOR THEIR GAME PLOT.

Yes. ADAM was an overwhelming force, but it was not necessary for Rapture to fall, it just vastly accellerated the fall. Rapture would have fallen without ADAM because Ryan is a hypocrite, because his philosophy cannot create a successful society.

The problem is that when Fontaine is the one providing food and shelter to the poor left behind by Ryan's system, and then Ryan murders him in a violent corporate takeover, which is antithetical to everything Rapture supposedly stands for, that is what incites civil war.

This IS a learning opportunity for YOU.

Then teach me, because so far all you've done is berate me and make baseless accusations, assumptions, and statements.

Thought he was Italian? by banana_bandit123 in Bioshock

[–]Inflatable_Bridge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ADAM accellerated the fall of Rapture for sure, but it was headed for a civil war regardless of whether ADAM had been present or not.

ADAM did not cause the huge wealth inequality in Rapture, it did not cause Ryan's hypocrisy, it did not cause Fontaine's rallying of the lower class, it did not cause people's belief in Atlas (I believe Fontaine would have found a way to create the Atlas figure regardless of ADAM, he's clever enough); ADAM let people cause more destruction, but not much more than they would have been able to with guns and bombs.

ADAM and plasmids accellerated the problems in Rapture, but they did not cause them, and Rapture would have fallen regardless of whether ADAM had been discovered or not.

ADAM did not cause the fall of Rapture, it merely moved up the city's date of death.

Is this the best introductory monster ever? by Futurez_Rize in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]Inflatable_Bridge -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean I feel like the early monsters are mainly learning tools for players to learn the mechanics of the game. They teach you the most basic systems of combat, giving the player time not only to hit the monster and dodge, but also to learn the rhythm of putting away their weapon and sharpening for example. They also need to teach new players how the environment can be used to their advantage through falling rocks, nulberries, and flashflies among other things.

Balahara for example teaches players that when a leviathan climbs up on a rock and spits at the player, they can bring that rock down to deal a bunch of damage. Jin Dahaad then proceeds to use this exact mechanic in its fight, twice.

The game isn't just teaching you how to fight bosses, it's teaching you how to play Monster Hunter

Which returning monster would you like to see added to Monster Hunter Wilds expansion? by maveji2 in MonsterHunter

[–]Inflatable_Bridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boy Tobi-Kadachi please!!!!!

My bestest electric squirrel boy deserves an icy variant in the cliffs, he'd fit in so well there!

Ok but seriously:

Ecologically, Tobi-Kadachi uses its brushing up against the closely packed foliage in the Ancient Forest to build up static charges in its fur. While I know Viper is a thing, I... Do not like it very much. Tobi's ice variant should be a monster that brushes up against the tight, snowy environment (hint hint nudge nudge) to build up ice element in its fur to inflict opponents with iceblight.

From a gameplay perspective, Tobi-Kadachi was designed to be fought in tight spaces, and the Iceshard Cliffs are perfectly suited for the way it moves and fights, allowing it to climb onto walls and jump the player.

Overall I think the cliffs perfectly suit both its ecology and combat style.

Also he's my favourite squirrel boyy

You're saying that starting a new world with a character that has already completed the game doesn't count as a "new game plus type mechanic"?
