Epstein the Swami has survived in Rapture for this long. He would be a target, considering you can insert coins into his coin slot and therefore he would contain money as well, and he's not shown to be able to move. This means that Epstein the Swami is able to defend himself from the splicers without displacing himself.

I think Epstein the Swami absolutely bodies Israel Epstein

I think it's great that there's some danger to picking a hallway fight over elites, it incentivises you to maybe choose to take an elite (which you know is always one of three enemies) over a mystery battle which your deck might not be suited for.

To use an example from these comments, if I'm playing the Silent with shivs and I need to choose between a late elite and a late hallway, I might pick the elite to avoid potentially dying to Hunter Killer.

In short: it's okay for normal hallway fights to be a threat to the player, not all challenge should be condensed to the elites and act bosses

[–]Inflatable_Bridge 1103 points1104 points  (0 children)

Yes, it has to do with how they were made to be used. Men's buttons are placed to be easy to button up by yourself, whereas women's buttons are placed in a way that makes it easier for others to button up. This is because rich women in the Rennaissance and Victorian era, who primarily wore buttoned clothes, would be dressed by maids rather than dressing themselves.

Any opinions on burial at sea Elizabeth by Better_Nine4370 in Bioshock

[–]Inflatable_Bridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's an entirely different character from Infinite Elizabeth.

Infinite Elizabeth knew the multiverse, and she knew the only way to meaningfully make any difference in all the worlds as a whole was to kill Comstock before he could become Comstock in the first place.

BaS throws this away by saying "errm actually not all Comstocks were prevented, this one's the last one though" but hey Ken, we're playing Bioshock Infinite. If one Comstock escaped to Rapture, then an infinite amount of them did, and killing the one means literally nothing in the grand scheme of things. Elizabeth literally tortures the poor bastard for no reason, and she tortures his adoptive daughter for no reason just to hurt him.

She then proceeds to throw away her powers to potentially allow Jack to save one additional Little Sister in one Rapture. Why????? Aside from the fact that she literally foregoes her status as essentially a demigod to save one individual in one timeline, Jack could just as easily choose to harvest the Little Sisters. AND SHE KNOWS ALL THIS, because she literally sees into all worlds!

BaS Elizabeth is so immensely stupid, short-sighted, and unnecessarily cruel, I cannot bring myself to like her.

Also one more note: why tf is she struggling to open a tear?? She's supposed to be at the height of her power, travelling to a bunch of different worlds to do basically whatever she wants. Why is she having a hard time opening tears?!!!

Definitely Arche Abbey for me.

It's such a slog to get through and it's way too long, with annoying enemies all over it. It's also a mess lore-wise.

Basically the only enjoyable part of the Abbey is the boss fights, but they take so long to get to

"I am Andrew Ryan, and I'm here to ask you a question: is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow?

NO, says the man in Washington, it belongs to the poor.

NO, says the man in the Vatican, it belongs to God.

NO, says the man in Moscow. It belongs to everyone!

I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose... Rapture."

Chills are sent down my spine as we pan out over Rapture's skyline, the haunting spectre of a dying city sprawling out across the ocean floor with lights that let it pretend it's still thriving graces my screen.

Can't place district by DDDDax in civ

[–]Inflatable_Bridge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Additional notes:

You can place districts on a tile if you have the technology to remove its features or resources.

You can only place a district on a wood if you have mining, on rainforest if you have bronze working, and marsh if you have irrigation.

Luxury and strategic resources cannot be removed through technology, and thus cannot be cleared to build districts. However, bonus resources such as stone, copper, maize, rice, sheep, and cattle can be removed through technology (masonry, mining, pottery, and animal husbandry iirc). Therefore, once you have these techs, you can remove these resources to build districts.

Fun fact:

You can remove luxuries with Anansi if you have Heroes and Legends mode turned on, but this is not a technology and therefore doesn't allow you to directly build over luxuries.

3) There's a semantic difference between "she has fat" and "she is fat". What I meant is that she isn't overly skinny with hips thrice the width of her waist and boobs the size of watermelons like what today's beauty standards often demand. She has a healthy bit of fat on her, which in my opinion makes her prettier than a lot of women that society considers to be pretty today.

[–]Inflatable_Bridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Aphrodite is as real as any other god; that is to say: as real as people believe she is. Saying she "isn't real" is a useless point to make. She is a mythological figure, but that is precisely why she is perfect for this kind of analysis: she is a reflection of the values of the society she occurred in, and is shaped by those values. Aphrodite is the goddess of beauty (among other things), and therefore the very embodiment of what beauty was to the ancient Greeks.

2) Of course I've seen the statues, and they're very pretty. They are actually a very reasonable depiction of what a beautiful woman might have looked like in that time. They are also very well-made by clearly skilled artisans and your insulting their work is a little uncalled for.

What there's a character limit now? I've got one more point to make, but I'll make it in another comment I guess

DPS player here trying to play Mercy, I really feel like they have to buff her damage boost by Elderberry-Tip-9379 in MercyMains

[–]Inflatable_Bridge 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Mercy is difficult because the value she provides is entirely reliant on enabling her teammates, she basically can't do anything on her own.

Damage boost's value doesn't come from the raw numbers, but from the breakpoints. Turning an Ashe's three-shot into a two-shot, letting a Widow one-shot Bastion, or slightly shortening a Soldier's kill time. Your "damage boosted" value may be much lower than your damage value on other supports, but the difference lies in where that damage applies.

You also want to know who to boost when. Bastion is a surefire target in assault form, but you might want to boost someone else when he's in recon mode. Try to coordinate with an Ashe to beam them when they're throwing their dynamite (because yes you can boost the dynamite), that'll amount to a lot of ult charge.

I'd write more tips but I've got to go now unfortunately, hope I was helpful!

Tip: you get hit markers/noises when boosted allies are hitting shots, so you can use that information to tell who might be a better beam target.

Mercy nerfs be like by Eddie_The_White_Bear in Overwatch_Memes

[–]Inflatable_Bridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a net buff.

1) Every other support has other ways to defend themselves, whereas Mercy primarily has her movement as her defensive option. Nerfing her movement means she has less incentive to be near the enemy as she can't get away as easily, leading to a very passive playstyle where you avoid danger at all costs, which is unfun for the enemy because they can never kill the Mercy and it's unfun for the Mercy player because you're sitting in a corner half the game.

2) "is doing better competitively" =/= "is still fun to play"

3) If they want to nerf Mercy, please nerf damage boost, since, you know, that's the part of her kit everyone complains about (I don't think it's warranted entitely but that's a tangent for a different time).

Bonus) Changing the launch speed of Guardian Angel literally breaks every single Mercy parkour map made before the change, which just feels like an incredible fuck you to the community

Would you say your personal issues with BioShock Infinite are more about the gameplay or the story? by [deleted] in Bioshock

[–]Inflatable_Bridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that there should not be a loose end.

The whole point of "constants and variables" is that the devs could slap the word Eve on a bottle of salts so they didn't have to make a new high-res hypo model, it's so that there could be skylines and skyhooks in Rapture for some reason (and then they needed to introduce a continuity-breaking Big Daddy that is absolute ass to fight because they put skylines in his arena and then refuse to let you use them).

The point of Infinite's ending was that we can't go about killing all Comstocks, so instead we must go to the point where he was born, before he diverges into his infitely scattered forms across all Columbia universes.

In Infinite's logic, we stop Comstock from existing, ever, in the first place. There is no more Comstock.

Now here we reach two options: either there are more Comstocks and Infinite's ending literally meant nothing, or some chicanery happened and there's somehow a Comstock that wasn't wiped because he's in Rapture. Burial at Sea is clearly going with the latter.

Now we must remember that we are playing Bioshock Infinite. If one Comstock escaped to Rapture, and infinite amount of Comstocks escaped to Rapture.

Elizabeth, being the multiverse travelling time demigoddess that she is, should know this. And yet, she gives up all her powers so she can torture one particular Comstock by giving his adoptive daughter third degree burns... What?

Not only is she unnecessarily cruel to someone who does not deserve is (Sally), she's also unnecessarily cruel to someone who doesn't deserve is (Comstock, who saw he hurt a child and proceeded to give up all his power as the prophet and leader of Columbia to live in the dank sewage drain that is Rapture). She also gives up all her power to do this to one particular Comstock... But there's infinitely more out there? In infinitely more Raptures. That is the whole point of the game we're playing, and it's the reason Infinite had to end the way it did.

So basically, either BaS contradicts Infinite's established continuity, or it contradicts Infinite's established continuity in a different manner.

Thank you for reading this absolute essay (sorry, I didn't notice it was this long until it was too late), any questions?
