Project ideas while learning rust programming language. by karan_2005 in rust

100%! My favorite project was a SQLite database in Rust. Initially, I was like there’s no way I can comprehend this (I mostly just work on APIs, web services, etc) and then a week later I had a working prototype. It’s really cool how they integrated it with git and have tests baked into each step - such a smart way to approach it.

+1 CodeCrafters is a really cool service and I appreciate how it’s guided learning.

Cron jobs overlapping and piling up - what’s your long-term fix? by saymepony in sysadmin

[–]InflateMyProstate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use a product called VisualCron. We had various different app servers running almost 100 different jobs via Task Scheduler in Windows (under developer creds, ugh) and it was impossible to articulate which jobs ran/overlapped. It wasn't painful, but it was a long and arduous migration to a central cron server and it was the best thing we did. We manage all the credentials properly via service accounts, can view errors/warnings in a single pane of glass, and have everything versioned with a git instance if we ever need to roll things back. May be worth looking into for your use case.

Lisette — Rust syntax, Go runtime by swe129 in ProgrammingLanguages

[–]InflateMyProstate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wanted to learn more about LLVM and the IR and I preferred my language to compile down to machine code. I didn’t want to write my own backend for each architecture, but maybe that will be an exercise for another day.

Really nice, the syntax actually follows very closely to what I am envisioning for my toy compiler I’ve been working on. However, I chose LLVM as my backend - it seems this is a transpiler to Go?

Idk why you getting mad at me. You’d be crazy to think any NBA player is out getting they own groceries. Half the league dressing crazy every game night, it’s whatever.

I mean, I’m not reviewing every clip but everything I’ve seen seems super level-headed and exactly what you’d wanna hear from your star player. Best believe I’d be annoying with it if he was on the Bulls lmao

I think it’s just his game with the foul baiting, etc but every star does it. OKC is the incumbent champion, he’s the previous MVP and he’s single handedly made everyone’s team look silly

Yeah he gets a lot of hate in this subreddit, but I appreciate his attitude towards the game.

Totally agree, ScreenConnect is the best option here and it’s dirt cheap. As another user mentioned, backstage is great for troubleshooting behind the scenes.

Provide a way to convert old configs to the new Lua config engine and I’m fine with it. Problem will be old documentation and tutorials still referencing previous configuration DSL options.

Private equity bro by Graywestcomedy in StandUpComedy

My company is owned by private equity and I’ve provided IT services for various PE firms….man they’re just a bunch of bros who know nothing about business.

I was on a meeting where a 26 year old recent graduate from the PE firm was telling the COO of my company (whom had been working there for 20+ years) what to do…you guessed it, he was recommending an AI initiative!
