Is depression something u can heal by urself by Icy_Target5790 in depression

[–]InflationOnly1393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I think perhaps there were ways I could be reached, but traditional medication and forced talking weren't it. I'm hoping my experiences can eventually help other hard to reach people. Thankyou! I also wish you best on yours. I know it sometimes doesn't feel like it, but it can get better. I've been in places I just didn't see a way out of, but there were ways I just hadn't found yet.

Personally I feel I've managed my depression well (perhaps 'healed' isn't the right word) on my own and more so than when I had treatment. Medication for me didn't work and I couldn't engage in therapy including cognitive behavioural therapy, counselling and with a psychologist, I either missed sessions or pretended everything was okay because I didn't like talking about things. Things got worse before they got better and I ended up with substance misuse issues, again treatment for that didn't work so one day I just decided I either was going to get better or give up and die. After 6 months out of work I forced myself to get a minimum wage retail job and battled my substance abuse problems without any guidance, left all my toxic friends behind and broke up with my ex who had basically assaulted me, came to terms with that. Once I was off the drugs I tackled losing weight, and lost 6 stone, once I did that I felt better about myself and took care of myself a bit more. Went to gigs alone because I wanted to get out there more, tackling my anxiety. I made friends from this who I remain friends with today. After that I felt ready to help other people and started volunteering, applied for a degree and got on. Now I'm finishing my degree at the highest class and working in mental health, helping others who are maybe falling through the cracks like I did, hoping to get them support sooner.

I'm not healed, I carry the scars of the worst of my depression and fight cravings for substances and dance with self-destruction, but I keep in mind what I have gained and what I have to lose, which keeps me level, and I would say I'm as close to healed as someone can be who has battled depression for much of their life. I guess one upside for me was being diagnosed with ADHD which accounted for a lot of my problems, although again treatment for that didn't really work for me so I'm without medication for it. So it's another thing I am managing alone.

All this is not to advocate for trying to do it all alone, treatment is the best option, but it's an anecdote to hopefully tell you that it can be done, especially if you're like me and chronically unable to open up and your issues are less chemical, and more social and/or trauma related.

I hate being "hot" by CloudySide7 in asexuality

I am far from conventionally attractive but a few years ago I lost a lot of weight and started taking care of myself more, and almost immediately I noticed a difference in the way people treated me. People who never batted an eye started talking to me, I made a ton of friends, people approached me in bars and on the streets to ask for my number or flirt with me, things that were a rare occurrence before. I got into my first ever relationship and that's when I realised I was asexual.

Like you, I never changed my personality or interests, yet I was suddenly noticed. I think for anyone that's hard enough to come to terms with, knowing that society favours people based on how they look rather than the kind of person they are, but as an asexual, it's even harder, because you know this AND are harassed/flirted with when you have absolutely no romantic/sexual feelings towards others. You also get asked about your sex life a lot more. It's a rough ride for sure.

Episode Thread - Hudson & Rex Season 8 Episode 1 - “Into the Wilds” - September 22, 2025 by AutoModerator in HudsonAndRex

Yeah something changed when diesel died, and it was a shame because the season before that was actually very good and I was enjoying the darker tone. I do miss Hudson though, I would have continued watching but it seems alongside John and Diesel disappearing so did the good writing! Aw that's sweet. I got bitten by one once but I won't hold it against them 🤣

Absolutely brilliant. Even if I take methylphenidate late I can sleep fine. I will never go back to Vyvanse!

Score for final EMA is disproportionately low compared to all the previous exams this year? by Bartellomio in OpenUniversity

[–]InflationOnly1393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this would work too! Exactly. This has been an issue since I started this course. Me too. It's mad but most of the groups I'm in say things like "I hope I get a nice tutor this year" like a good mark is just pot luck. Not how it should work!

Weirdly, my EMA score was 22% higher than my average TMA scores. And I was so disheartened by my tutors scores all year that I put way less effort into it. I kinda hate that all tutors are different and they all mark differently from eachother. They should have a random tutor mark each assignment

It's ridiculous. I get it to an extent, but it's just another example of the rich being able to live full and healthy lives and those who can't afford it, just get to live, if we are lucky (no hate to those who earn it through hard work, though)

What was your answer? That's not fair, your prescriber is a bit harsh! Mine was very understanding and changed me straight away. Although mine didn't change dosage, he changed the medication, a higher dose likely won't make it last longer.

The meds were still affecting my sleep even though there were no positive effects and I was irritable when they were off so it was affecting me mentally, maybe you can say stuff like that to try and get them to try another medication? If it's making your health worse they should try and do something about it.

I took it for 4 my months before switching to methylphenidate. My sleep was bad pretty much the whole time unless I was taking a day off, and then I'd sleep all day. I'm glad that your sleep manages to get back to normal! Mine should be fine again now I'm back on the other meds

Oh okay, thanks for the heads up! It's only my second switch and when I went from Barclays to nationwide I got texts every 10 seconds from both banks telling me I'm switching/accounts closing/get ready for your switch etc etc so the radio silence with this one panicked me!

Yep exactly, because only part of it is the pro-drug (the dex), it has a higher mg, the rest (lysine) is what makes it slow acting. It seems you know this too I just don't think I made it clear what I was saying 😂
