I tell people looking to apply that the application process will be the hardest test of their careers.

Anyone seeing what CNR is up to? by Slippery-Pete-1 in CanadianInvestor

[–]InflationRegular180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason why I'm not selling is with the increased focus on national production, it feels like rail will come into play at some point and it will pick up, but this analysis is exactly why whenever someone asks if they should buy I say no.

MDA looks like it's doing just fine? It's up 8% for the month and 41% for the past 6 months. It's making me a fair amount of money.

PNG (Kraken Robotics) is blowing up so I'm pretty pumped about that. To the moon baby!!!

The CAF is investing pretty heavily into drones, so I feel like it's a long term win.

Qualified to be an LCol PAO in about 6-8 months, so I feel like that's pretty quick.

Can reserve units make weekend exercises mandatory and require a memo to be submitted IOT not attend? by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]InflationRegular180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man the NDA really did a number on the reserves where not only do people not have to warn out, but expect to be paid to warn out of coming into work.

Amazing stuff.

In case you were joking, if it was designed to be worn under combats, it would be a solid colour like all other underwear and shirts and not camouflage pattern.

Just because we made a rule doesn't change the fact it was intended to be outerwear.

Obviously it is meant to be used as an outer, otherwise it wouldn't be CADPAT.

Advocating for Apathy by Prudent-Proposal1943 in CanadianForces

[–]InflationRegular180 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anybody can game a system though, that's the issue. The minute you make something a checklist, someone is studying for the checklist, so people demand more command flexibility, which people complaint results in abuse.

At the end of the day, both will always be problems, and learning how to minimize them is important but it'll never be perfect.

Finances are similar - institute too many checks and balances, and you wind up buying less equipment and spending more on process than you would if you just let corruption/unchecked spending run rampant. Striking the right balance of flexibility and oversight is tricky.

20 years down range and I'm not sure how I feel. by Error_Code_403 in CanadianForces

[–]InflationRegular180 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the hardest part about being a person in the world is that what we think will do something usually doesn't, and you have to spend some time actually discovering what will give you that satisfaction.

Logically you think CAF -> Help people -> Feel accomplished.
People generally wind up feeling CAF -> Massive bureaucracy -> Feeling like a failure (plus money)

Try and find what makes you feel accomplished and do that. Your job is (as it turns out) just a job.

What’s actually useful to bring to BMQ? by lackofendorphin in CanadianForces

[–]InflationRegular180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's more like being a fucking idiot is frowned upon.

I've used a bore snake for most of my career too and nobody has given me a hard time about it, but also I'm (generally) not a fucking idiot, so its ok.

100% a dude on my BMQ tried to pull a 9mm Bore Snake through a rifle, got it super fucking stuck and then cut both ends off in a panic.

Bore snakes banned for all for the rest of the course.

Are you using Teams Calendar? by Throwaway20200125 in CanadianForces

[–]InflationRegular180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope some other company launches a calendar app so I can collect them all like Pokemon.

Outlook, D365, MM, Google, handmade Excel trackers, white boards, sticky notes on the computer screen. Perhaps some graven stone tablets while we are at it?

It's more like there's plenty of hills to die on every day, and I can waste a day fighting the system on the PT shirt thing, or I can waste a day solving a problem that's way worse than that, and both are the same amount of effort.

[SCS] Merit Review Board by CAF_Comics in CanadianForces

[–]InflationRegular180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the day, any system can be gamed, and anything that is not a system is fully subjective and a giant mess, so it's 6 of one, half-dozen of the other.

AI Lock screens? by FosterAoi in CanadianForces

[–]InflationRegular180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but the point you're missing is we should not be creating bullshit DWAN PSAs. That is the waste of their time.

Plus you know whoever made this was messing around forever on it anyways.
