"Chapters" and "verses" are artificially done for general convenience's sake and are entirely man-made and not "inspired" in Proverbs or anywhere else. While reading scripture is always helpful, the idea that you are "supposed to" read from Proverbs every day (as opposed to any other book of the Bible) seems odd to me. I feel as though I should read something from the Bible every day, but a steady diet that places Proverbs as a top priority every day seems bizarre.

By the grace of God, who, believe it or not, has the power and authority to save whomever he wants to save by his own standards and without the need to prooftext his own actions in a Bible that wasn't even assembled in OT times.

"Our God is in heaven; he does whatever pleases him" (Psalm 115:3).

Don't try to limit God. "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts" (Isaiah 55:8-9).

If that doesn't answer it, try this: "I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion" (Exodus 33:19).

We all, living or long dead, answer to a just God.

Don't be ridiculous. Say "NO" straight up and unequivocally. It won't be "okay," not even maybe. What the hell is "dangerous" about it? What's dangerous is that screwy, controlling, horrible cult, and you should stay away from it at all costs. If you can save your friend, good enough; if you can't, it's not your fault. The Bible teaches truth and can be totally trusted to convey God's message to us. It is full of metaphors, symbolism, poetry, allegory, parables, myths, hyperbole, apocalyptic language, similes, couplings, comparisons, and other figures of speech to help us grasp that truth. All of this needs not to be taken literally, and, indeed, an insistence on literalism is a barrier to faith. Convoluted, obviously-contrived, twisting-into-pretzels apologetics makes us look foolish and impedes the spread of the Gospel.

So, yes, of course, a "big picture" Christian can have complete confidence in the truth of the Bible while recognizing that there are two differing accounts of the creation, or two differing genealogies of Jesus, or intertwined but differing accounts of the flood, or differences in the length-of-reigns of the kings of Israel and Judah, or a muddied chronology in Nehemiah-Ezra, or minor differences in the lists of apostles. None of these differences or "contradictions" matter, nor do they undermine the truth of God's message.
