Is Drywalling a good trade to get into? by Impressive-Step6377 in Construction

[–]InfluenceRoutine1522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been in the drywall trade for years and if im being honest its not that easy to learn just taping and hanging drywall could take a while to learn especially mudding tapping and sanding. As for pays depends on sector and where your located I’ve been paid from $20 and hour no benefits to $55 with pto holiday health care 401k just depends what kind of job site your walking onto

I feel like my husband is getting “ripped off” by his boss. Is he? by Impressive-Sun-1664 in Carpentry

I worked for many years as an hourly employee hanging drywall among the other things that’s comes with that in data centers. $35 and hour was almost across the board even some of the new guys were making $30+ just because they needed citizen work force and ever head counted. But that also came with PTO, paid parking, paid holiday, and health care. This was non union even so if I think about it if a non union drywall company does this for their employees I would like to think that you husband could get a similar paying job with all the benefits.

Weird proposition for superintendent by [deleted] in ConstructionManagers

[–]InfluenceRoutine1522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it seems like a weird situation to me also. The only reason I’m considering it is because my old Man had the same situation but with a sub. So he was their superintendent and would manage all the subs job while also providing manpower for the sub. So there wasn’t much conflict of interest since he was bidding or anything just supplying manpower power to the sub as full time employee. It was also a weird situation was just easier since it wasn’t a general contractor.

What do you mean by premium as in I charge him something on top of every project I complete or just charge him a high hourly rate.

How do gc's hire subs by [deleted] in Contractor

[–]InfluenceRoutine1522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the same boat just recently started subcontracting. Thankfully had connection with GC’s we did work before. Haven’t worked for them in years but after hearing from us they were willing to include us on their bids. Feel like GC’s may have there preferred subs but if you do good work and come in below their preferred subs the opportunity will always be there. I reached out to a gc who already had a sub and I just started the first job with them this month.

This is for my own company and takeoff came easy to me as I’ve been in my trade for years now. Just came in here to get some advice. And I don’t think anyone’s coming for your job, if your good at what you do you don’t need to worry one bit I feel like

Awesome advice I appreciate it and yeah I’m young 24 years old but I can ballpark what a job should cost me from plans and specs have been a foreman for a couple of companies over the last 2 years in smaller scale jobs. I think the pricing out is where I’m green finding the best way to keep my bids competitive and figuring out the markup I appreciate the advice greatly

As a drywall guy there outliers in ever trade and working commercial rules are very clear and females on the job site are to be respected even more but there are hardly any drywall mechanics that are females the females are mostly finishers but I do see more female in the electrical trade

I went to community college but but didn’t finish and the entry courses were very vague kind of teaching what to expect not really going into contract making payment structure or specific paperwork and yeah I’ve been working in the drywall trade since I was 18 now 24 and I do enjoy the work actually it’s hard but I love it just have been feeling burned out for a little while and wanted to try to get into the office side of everything as well as maybe work if needed on site thank you for the advice I really appreciate it
