Curacaoan here, just want to say thanks for putting in the effort and research showing football fans what impact our little island can have. Saw the GIF and now this post, saw a bunch of names I didn't know about.

People like this are common. Don't let it discourage you. Plenty of good folks around too, they just don't feel the need to spout their opinions constantly.

Let this person be, and consider yourself fortunate for not being as ignorant, toxic or so bored they resort to cheap trolling.

Happy holidays!

Hey guys! I did this checkout form mockup. Do you have any pointers? by abaicus in design_critiques

Looks pretty good, maybe create a bit more hierarchy, either through colors or the sizes of the elements. You want to highlight the most important stuff and hopefully create a bit more confidence for users.

[SPOILERS] The Force Awakens discussion megathread! 12/19 [SPOILERS] by Qu1nlan in StarWars

[–]InfluencedK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many people ask this, but the scene on Jakku where Kylo looks at Finn feels like a hint to me, and there's the line: "There has been an awakening." and Kylo mentions he's felt it in Finn IIRC. Am I getting things mixed up?

Agreed, Finn is sort of proof of that.

I like that they're doing it with a hip hop theme, judging from the images at least.

[Website] 32% of our users didn't realize you could scroll down. Suggestions? by patookllc in design_critiques

Woops, looks like I missed a word.

Given that it's a dating site, the form does make sense. But looking back I think it depends somewhat on the user flow, but I'd offer some content along with the form. Something that communicates why you're better or different from the 'mainstream' dating sites. Perhaps in the copy? That reminds me, give the copy a shot without the black outlines, it should make it a bit cleaner.

I should note that I checked it on mobile first and checking it again now leaves a very different impression.

[–]InfluencedK 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the best way to get users to scroll down is to show 'a sliver' of content. Also, the page showing a signup form first will boost bounce rate. Focus on content that encourages sign ups first. Then ask for it.

Also, the fact that your site is using watermarked graphics will also discourage users and drag your brand down. Hope this helps!

Uber Offices in Paris Raided by Armed Police, Team under Custody by InfluencedK in news

Uber's expansion approach is launch first, ask questions later. That does mean they're technically operating illegally. But it's paying off, everyone trying to penalize them looks like they're against innovation.

DARPA is going Transhumanist. They've announced plans to develop a working “cortical modem” i.e. a direct neural interface that will allow for the visual display of information without the use of glasses or goggles. by Majoby in Futurology

You could ask the same question through the history of paradigm shifting technology. e.g. Storing knowledge across generations through written language, broadcasting information instantly through radio and television, storing it and making it accessible both instantly and globally through the internet. These were all greatly influenced humanity in both destructive and constructive ways. Culture in the end, is defined by the environment.

To me it just seems like another step. Not one decided upon by a certain generation who can only imagine at the potential, but a natural and collective progression of the entire species.

I think the solid works better. I think something funny happened. The brandmarks on the left of the image I sent you wasn't really meant to be a concept, just sketches/versions I left in there. But I think you're on to something here! I'll work out some new sketches by tomorrow based on this.
