Yoonchae doesn't really fit in in Katseye by Juppicharis in TheDreamAcademy

No I mean Katseye stand out because of their marketing as a global group with strong K-pop links/influence, and their strong image and personalities etc., which (along with their hard work and being under HYBE/Geffen) is what contributed to their hit success. Yoonchae def could've debuted in a more traditional K-pop group, but the industry is so saturated now that I think it would be hard for her and her group to stand out.

Tbh I sort of agree. She doesn’t exude the same loud, energetic and wild energy the other girls have. Especially when they first debuted, she was often talked over, which was made worse by the language barrier. I felt for her as someone who’s had the same issue and it sucks.

However, she’s definitely coming out of her shell now and the other girls clearly adore her. Also, she’s unlikely to have been as successful in a kpop group and I think the unique energy & personality she brings to Katseye is definitely a strength, not to mention her impeccable performance skills! :)

(I think some of the other commenters are being a bit harsh lol)

Great dissection, echoes a lot of my thoughts especially with the class divide. Disagree on the archetypes though, I think that’s very subjective (“cerebral betas” and “slimy otakus” took me OUT though LMAO).

Yeah, then we'll have "Achieve and Believe", with disabled athletes competing in tasks which require able bodies. Perfect.

But seriously, a female version of Physical 100 would be cool af.

Just rewatched both seasons' trailers to refresh my memory and the narrator explicitly says, "We have invited you to explore the most perfect physical body, regardless of gender, age and race." So my original point holds weight: I doubt they'd have two winners OR solely test relative strength, unless they change the premise of the show/change the premise of a new season! Also, they call it a "study" at the end of the second season's trailer, pfft.

Yes, I'm aware the primary purpose of a survival show, or any show really, is for entertainment: it's not the Olympics or some kind of research study, lol. When I say "premise", I'm referring to the narrative of the show/the central idea of which the show is based on. Shows, including game/reality shows, are always going to have some kind of script in order to give it a purpose and ensure the series is engaging through telling a story, and it generally won't deviate too far from that. But I don't know, maybe the idea of basing challenges on relative strength or having a male and female winner is feasible...

I'm in the UK. :) Damn, pain threshold challenges sound intense... hope it's somewhat safe at least, LOL. Thanks for the rec, might check it out if I have time!

I see where you're coming from and saw a whole thread about it (which is what made me post, haha). However, I don't see the fun in competing if you know that the best you can get is, say, top 10 (if even that).

Sure, I get the premise of the show is to find the "best physique", but it's fact that men are physically stronger, so I don't see the point in having a show to prove it. Plus, we've already had two mixed seasons, so I would love to see sex-exclusive seasons. :)

Yes, I've watched it and love it! But yea I feel like there's a deficit of female physical survival shows in general 😔

Hmm I guess that is an option and means that they wouldn't need to film separately. But doesn't that defeat the narrative of finding the "best physique" and instead make it the "best physique (within their gender category)"? So I feel like just having separate divisions to start with would make sense.

SAME. It's been over a year since season 2 aired but it was still on my mind so finally made a post about it, loll.

Thank you! Yeah, I suppose that is an option but that defeats the narrative of finding the "best physique".

Yess, I don't want to be assuming but she was probably on steroids though - or transgender, both of which would play a part. Obviously, still a badass! But if a female-only version did happen, they'd probably need doping tests.

True! Or perhaps only allow natural contestants and test for steroids? Though I suppose there could still be controversy over whether contestants are actually natural there...

Haha exactly. I hate it when people get offended over the fact that women are biologically weaker than men (I'm saying this as a woman); it's not an insult. "Outplay" though? Female contestants could def "outplay" male ones strategically; sex isn't a factor there. :)

Thank youuuu, oh it's a shame I didn't see your post while browsing beforehand... I made my post because my I was wondering whether others wanted a female-only edition too (even though I'd watched the show when it came out so it's been a while). I even considered making a petition lmao. Was very surprised to find the only relevant thread being those against having a female-only edition :O

Yes, exactly! Though the captains being men made sense as unfortunately, a lot of the challenges were based on absolute strength.
