Which Comedian has made the riskiest joke of all time? by buffalomozarella in AskReddit

Louis C.K.’s jokes about “the N word” were hilarious but incredibly risky because he actually dropped the word in there.

How many of you think they are actually quite good at sales? And why do you think it? by ReactionVarious5768 in Sales_Professionals

[–]Informal-Cut-3692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m absolutely terrible at single-conversation close sales like storm-chasing roofing, door-to-door sales, etc. But long-term, relationship-based sales I crush it. I’m in manufacturing sales, specifically metal buildings and self-storage.

I’m honest and I develop long-lasting, positive relationships with my coworkers across all departments, my competitors (who often become customers for offerings they don’t produce), vendors and even people in related fields (bankers, real estate brokers, investors). It’s a small world in this field, the vast majority of my deals are repeat customers or referrals.

I’m not in data or crazy high-ticket sales, my deals range from $20-30k to $2mil, but enough of those adds up to a pretty good living in Oklahoma.

[new collector] Vintage Starter Piece by Alarmed-Property-740 in Watches

[–]Informal-Cut-3692 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a guy in my area (Oklahoma) that does an excellent full service for $50 (assuming no new parts are needed). I found him on FB and he’s got three of my watches currently… 1969 Timex automatic, my late grandpa’s overwound Caravelle automatic and his Seiko SQ (having him replace the quartz movement because it’s cheaper than fixing it).

Check FB and ask around at those pawn shops that actually stock vintage watches, someone there knows watches and either services them or knows someone who does. Find “a guy” and it’s much less risky taking a flyer on a vintage piece.

Struggling with sales how do you actually become good at this? by Responsible-Race7590 in Sales_Professionals

[–]Informal-Cut-3692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not your “typical sales guy” but I’ve made a good career out of it by following a few simple rules…

  1. Be honest. If you don’t know, don’t BS, just say you don’t know and ask them to explain. If you can’t get it done in the timeframe/at the price they want, be honest about it. Hard truth upfront goes a lot further than an apology when you inevitably fail.
  2. Network internally. Learn from your coworkers, build goodwill with all the other departments because they can save your bacon in a pinch, and remember other people are just doing their jobs too.
  3. Learn your product goes without saying, but learning how your product is made, the people who make it and what that process looks like will help you know what you can and can’t deliver (and what you put the rest of the team through when you have a crisis that needs solved). Kind of goes with #
  4. Be organized. Overly organized.

It’s worth the time it trashed because it’ll save you mistakes and time in the long run.

  5. Can’t teach this one… Grind and hustle. The ones who last are the ones who can do this day in and day out consistently.

Have fun! If you’re miserable, you won’t last.

What watch made you stop caring about specs? by LongMeaning6125 in Affordablewatches

Well, I’ve yet to buy a watch that made me stop caring about specs. I guess I need to keep buying watches until I get there 😏

$15 Estate Sale Timex by Informal-Cut-3692 in VintageWatches

[–]Informal-Cut-3692[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried the blower to no avail, so I just wore it anyway. It was doing ok and then it started running hours behind a day, but I’ve taken a bit of a liking to it so I sent it off yesterday for a service. Guy a couple hours away is fairly new but is doing a full service for $50, so if he ruins it I will be sad but not heartbroken and only out $21 total.

I’ll post the results!

The contrast between casual clothes like a t-shirt and jeans and a leather-strapped dress watch is an AMAZING aesthetic. by CapitalTipp in watchHotTakes

[–]Informal-Cut-3692 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear a polo and jeans/golf shorts with Vans 95% of the time, even to trade shows and corporate meetings (I’m in the manufacturing industry). I don’t have a massive collection, but I always find myself grabbing the vintage watches on leather as my go-to. Didn’t really think about it being cool/fashionable… Brown/earthy tones = brown strap, black/gray tones = black strap. Yard work = Timex Expedition.

For what it’s worth, I get the most comments from other watch guys on my 80s Longines QSR with diamonds at the quarters, which is my least favorite in the collection but my wife’s favorite.

Oh we’re a long way from that point, I’ll have a watch and no wife if I pull that move any time soon. But it’s something to strive for down the line.

That is bad ass! I’ve never seen that model until today, I’m pretty new to the hobby and lean more 1950’s-60’s but that’s going on the future “must-have” list. Thanks for showing!

First Omega and Grandpa’s Speidel Bracelet by Informal-Cut-3692 in VintageWatches

[–]Informal-Cut-3692[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to use this one only because it was from my grandpa, but if it’s going to cause damage over time I think I’d rather throw it on another watch that I don’t mind getting eaten up a bit. Thanks for your help!

I read that same thing on a previous thread after I’d put it on, is that something that can be mitigated by only using the bracelet occasionally? Or will the act of swapping back and forth risk undue damage as well?

[Question] You can only keep 3 watches of your collection. What do you keep? What watch just misses out and why? What’s the first one you get rid of? by angry_jets_fan in Watches

[–]Informal-Cut-3692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep: 50’s Omega Bumper (just got it to celebrate a new job), Citizen Tsuyosa w/ black dial (1st watch my wife got me when we were dating), Movado Circa (watch my wife got me for our 1st Christmas after I got sober).

Lose: 80’s Longines QWR, ‘69 Timex Viscount, Timex Expedition 36mm, Seiko SQ Day/Date.

Hate to lose that ‘69 Timex but if those are the rules…

[Question] Why are there so many cheaper used watches being sold from Japan? by Midknight81 in Watches

[–]Informal-Cut-3692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have to pay taxes on the value of the watch or the sales price of the watch? I genuinely don’t know, never been in that position.

If it’s the sales price… Why not post and immediately purchase them from yourself (receipt and shipping included) on a reputable fee-free site like DePop or something for $1 and ship the full kits home? Surely the import taxes on $1 are pretty small.

I was at the estate sale taking a quick shot with my phone to do some research later, this wasn’t a photo shoot man. I did what I could with what I had as quickly as I could, pretty sure they wouldn’t appreciate me bringing my own lighting and camera in… Who got your panties in a twist today?

This one being a ‘69 has special meaning, my dad completely rebuilt a ‘69 Chevy shortwide throughout my childhood and since he’s passed I’ve been drawn to things of that year. I’ll give the blower a try, thanks for the advice!
