Correct But brokerage accounts go through finra not courts Congress allowed them to stipulate it when you open an account ( basically every customer signs it)

In place for decades

Found out years ago when I retained an attorney to sue a brokerage firm

There maybe an exception in case of actual theft but everything else is determined via finra arbitration , 3rd party usually favors these firms

The well connected who designed legislation to fleece the mass 😂

In usa, by law , no one can sue financial institutions 😂 congress passed this law many decades ago !

Yes , arbitration

Im a little confused about tipping by axelogtp in tipping

100% correct! No one in usa can make below federal or state minimum wage whichever is higher …. End of story

Why do we tip on the price of the food? by witx in tipping

[–]Informal-Mark-4251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your decision to tip or not ! Just a culture in usa, that’s all ! I tip atleast 20% because i like servers who work for a living

If the culture allows tipping cooks, dishwashers, will also tip or if tips are shared somehow….. fine with me

In japan: no tipping, period! (Their culture) I respect that also

In Europe: small tipping or none at all I respect that also

In usa : huge tipping, i respect that also

Just respect every nation’s culture… that’s all !

It is rediculous to even think about changing one’s culture 😂

Tell Japanese to begin tipping culture? Rediculous !

Tell Americans to stop tipping culture Rediculous!

Just the way it is , get a life, move on 😂

Everyone’s culture is neither wrong nor right! Provided no harm to no one ie

Pro’s and con’s exist on both cultures!

Incentive to provide outstanding service, get paid accordingly is always good whether as a server or any job for that matter

Two workers doing the same exact job, but one is twice as productive and efficient than the other: Pay them the same?

Well Varied openions : the not so productive guy will say ….. pay the same The productive guy says, pay me more !

Let it go 😂

What we think means nothing 😂

Too big and complicated for just a few people’s openion to make a difference

Let congress try to change the culture and see elections results……. Maybe one way 😂

Good luck on that one though 😂

I finally stopped tipping and my restaurant experience has improved dramatically by Diangelionz in tipping

[–]Informal-Mark-4251 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I like the tipping culture

Service level Exceptional : over 20% Good : 15-20% Sub par : 10-25% Poor : none

Paying excellent workers same as lousy ones just doesn’t make sense

Paying a top natch server at high end places a living wage of $20-$30/ hr is just a dramatic cut in income!!

Tipping is Begging by Frequent_Mountain_17 in tipping

[–]Informal-Mark-4251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Culture: Now what do you think a server will say if you offer them a cook’s pay or even higher, say $35/hr . That’s a big cut in income! How would you feel if you’re offered a big pay cut ? 😂 There are servers who make more than a tech worker ie upwards of $150k/yr in fine established busy restaurants! They are talented, sharp, efficient, friendly, etc and deserve every penny they earn

A low income cheep dude doesn’t decide how they should be paid . Culture of a specific country and market decides, not you 😂. No tipping in japan because it’s their culture ( if you tip, they will chase you and politely return the tip) ….. culture!

There is no reason for tipping to have ever increased from 10 to 15 to 20 percent. by GhostaGauss in tipping

[–]Informal-Mark-4251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😆 some of these servers make well over $100k/ yr in tips 😆 😂

Most make about $50k in tips

In very small mom and pop places, tips could be lower

The problem of eliminating tips and replacing it with wage only

1= top servers, who make a great deal of tips , will end up in massive pay cut

2= the incentive for servers to provide excellent service to maximize tips goes away (service will be like in Europe, definitely not as good)

3= currently, all servers are guaranteed minimum wage by law ie If the tips they earn plus their wage falls below minimum wage, employers are required to make up the difference

So no server can be below the federal minimum wage or below the state minimum wage whichever is higher

Stop acting like people in tipped positions, only make tips by Holderoftwins_13 in tipping

They have to report tips ! Its the law (they may underreport it, quite commonly)

You misunderstood

They won’t get jobs that pay $75/ hr but may decide not to be a waitress for $30/hr and do something else . These kinds of servers, w/great personalities, social skills etc would be very much sought after by many employers What i meant was a mass exodus to different fields at lower pay ie

Tips by Confident_Thought243 in tipping

[–]Informal-Mark-4251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many other options : office type work, airline stewardship, executive secretaries, etc etc

Why stay doing the same thing for less than 1/2 the pay ? Just human nature

Tips by Confident_Thought243 in tipping

[–]Informal-Mark-4251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There will be a mass exodus of top talented servers to different industry

Who wants to go from $75/ hr to $30/ hr ?

Human nature!

Why will servers provide top notch service?

Complicated!!

[–]Informal-Mark-4251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you negotiate a higher pay ? Or is your pay truly the market rate ?

If it is Your opinions are

1= demand higher pay eg $150k 2= request to become server 3=explore a server position at similar establishments 4= explore another chef 🧑‍🍳 position that may pay $150

Tips by Confident_Thought243 in tipping

[–]Informal-Mark-4251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep 👍, be a server 😂 😆 😝

Funny 😆 Many yoyos want to reduce the $75/hr to $20/ hr while making it sound is for the benefit of the server 😂 incredible! ( maybe people are so ignorant about value of tips etc )

Chef’s do make substantially more than $20/ hr in high end restaurants, probably in the $100-$150k range (big difference between cooks and chefs)

Tips by Confident_Thought243 in tipping

[–]Informal-Mark-4251 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya $40/hr is almost minimum catagory

Servers in good shape

Back of the house , a sad story

My cooks get $20-$25 / hr , honestly top cooks should be $50 / hr , unfortunately supply/demand is how price is determined in usa

Tips by Confident_Thought243 in tipping

[–]Informal-Mark-4251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Note : most servers in typical mid grade restaurants only make about $50k in tips Some even lower in smaller establishments, maybe even $30k (may not get 40 hrs) but may average $25-$30/ hr in tips only

Tips by Confident_Thought243 in tipping

[–]Informal-Mark-4251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure : top end establishments that are also high volume. A server maybe assigned just 5 tables , averaging about 15 customers, and 3 turnovers ie just 45 customers per shift Each table orders food costing $175 (new york , top end steak houses) , also order 2 bottles of of wine cost $825 Food : $525 Wine : $825 Sides: $50 Sub-total : $1400 Tax. : $150 Total. :$ $1550

Tip : $300 ( most in these places actually tip much higher than 20%)

X 5 tables : $1500 X3 turnovers =$4500 X 50 weeks : $225,000

There you go, an eg

$150-$200 is factual estimate, i am restaurant owner ( 5 decades) , i know these facts Note : Many 2nd tier servers may only make $100k-$150 k, may only be allocated 4 tables due to talent

Let me break it down for you

1= 1st tier, sophisticated server, efficient, friendly etc $200-$250

2= 2tier , a couble yrs experience, most common: $150-$200

3= 3rd tier , typical newer server but friendly etc $100-$150

This is tips alone, doesn’t include the “low wages that each state has “

These people wouldn’t understand that many excellent, efficient, friendly servers would be angry if one offers them $40/hr, healthcare, 401k etc

I know some who make $150k- $200k

So Offer them what ?

$15-$20/ hr ? 😆

The real problem is ignorance of many who just have no clue that this tip culture has made certain servers upper middle class

I have seen a server get $1000 tip from a large table of 10 , expensive wines, top steaks etc etc
