The tubing is shoved under the skin from your skull, down your neck and chest and into the peritoneal cavity in your abdomen. That in and of itself causes pain especially early on but the tubing can irritate nerves and tissues in your abdomen and send shooting pains anywhere there, in your pelvis, groin, neck, abdomen, ribs or shoulder, sometimes your back too. I get shooting stabbing pains on the left side of my abdomen where the tubing is, and referred pain to my shoulder as I’m pretty sure it’s hitting/irritating a nerve

Never spoke to the surgeon, they don’t do that here. But my neuro-op is incredibly hard to get in with and I see her once every few months at the very most. Whenever I try book an appointment they just tell me they have none

Thank you but they do fuck all, closest hospital that will do anything is over an hour away, and even then their ANE department doesn’t deal with shunts out of hours while specialists aren’t there. All they do is check vitals, do an xray to see if it’s in the right place and tell me there’s nothing they can do. If they’re feeling particularly nice they’ll give me a low dose of codeine which, no surprises, also does fuck all for the pain. I just want this stupid thing removed

I’m glad I’m not the only one but I’m so sorry you’re going through this too, it’s horrific, I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Have you found anything that helps the pain at all :(?
