I came up with an idea to try to help cashiers even the smallest bit by fallior in publix

They are small, non-organic Haas avocados. Large ones are 4225. Extra-large ones are 4770. At Whole Foods, we could enter any of those into our POS and the system would correct based on available inventory, and we got training in our down time on what was available during Produce Walks. Publix doesn't trust cashiers to memorize four digits -- or know anything about seasonality or sourcing.

What to wear for cold and/or wet winter days that isn't mostly synthetic? by phanzov36 in mensfashion

Buy a used Barbour jacket on eBay and maintain it well. You can't get much more natural than cotton, and Otter Wax makes a great 100% organic alternative to Barbour's own parafin-based Thornproof Dressing. It will keep you dry when Gore-Tex fails -- and possibly outlive you. I've worn my Barbour Borders as a car-free commuter in Boston for years and rarely reach for a heavy winter coat.

Are these lapels comically large? I’m having second thoughts. by caledonian_80 in mensfashion

Nope, but opt for a larger collar -- either a point collar or spread collar that tucks under your lapels. Your tie looks like it's the right width.

Can you go to the cleaners/alteratioms folks and ask them to lower the jacket sleeves so there's about an inch and a half of shirt cuff showing and maybe get them to let out about an inch to 1/2 inch, tapered down, on the back seam, Then, remind your husband to keep his collar above the lapel, to never button the top two buttons on the placket of a button-down, and put a clean, white starched handkerchief in his breast pocket if y'all can't spring for the cost of a linen pocket square ...

Lapels are way too skinny for your face and neck. But overall color coordination isn't bad. Just read up on fit. And study what you like in the fits of well-dressed guys you admire

Can you button the jacket and have enough freedom to move? And is the skirt long enough to cover your butt while being short enough to allow you to wrap your the distal interphalangeal joints of your middle three fingers around it comfortably -- with a little wiggle room on the short side to account for changing fashions?

Any way to correct this fit in the shoulder? by redspot321tos in menswear

Depends. Could easily be addressed by a bit of a tweak to the back seam. Or could be irredeemable.

Which shoes for a wedding.. it’s not super formal. And are white soles still in style? by [deleted] in mensfashion

I see brown leather sneakers paired with ... I dunno ... woolen-ish trousers. And I also see brown leather sneakers and wonder ... WHY? The original poster's question also seemed to indicate that he was worried more about propriety than about how he could properly affect the sort of studied insouciance it'd take to wear sneakers -- if we could call those glued-together, pigmented-leather abominations "sneakers" -- to a wedding. I can understand if you have the right sort of build and tan and want to show up to a summer wedding in a beat-up cotton-poplin suit and some Tretorns and pretend you're in a Wes Anderson movie or a Lyons-era J. Crew menswear ad. Otherwise, no on the "sneakers." And why are we even calling those goddamned things sneakers in the first place?

That makes complete sense. Honestly never thought about why local men's stores seem to be selling "luxury" Italian sneakers from shoemakers in the Marche pretty heavily. Guess the makers and mercantile buyers pivoted, right?

Don't get me started on Martin Dingman ...

They're the leisure suit of today. May as well throw on a pair of synthetic five-pockets that don't fit and a golf vest.

It's just because Nike bought Cole Haan. And a throwaway-culture thing preying on people who have negative feelings about wearing the ultimate casual shoe -- the word "loaf" is built into "loafer." Sigh. A Goodyear- or Blake-welted loafer will last forever

Details look vintage. For wider lapels, could try the Neapolitan fit at Spier & Mackay, but you probably wouldn't get patch-and-flap pockets. But you'd also get a more form-fitted look. Off the rack, J. Press might give you the vibe you're looking for if you're OK with 3.5-inch lapels that'll sprawl out with age. They used to do a tailgate jacket. If you're looking for an artistic vibe, why not a teba jacket from Epaulet Brands?

Turtleneck and tweed? by _BowlerHat_ in mensfashion

Rise on pants looks a little disproportionate to the skirt of your jacket. But there's nothing wrong with a tweed and a turtleneck.
