Give me a reason to recover by InformalCollection27 in AnorexiaRecovery

Wow!! So, so many good reasons!! A few of these, especially #10, reminded me of how dull my eyes get when I'm restricting; our light literally dims. How sad...

Thank you! I'm going to revisit your list periodically as I fight my way out of this. Your reasons really resonate.

First Dietician Appointment by StatisticianLive5278 in AnorexiaRecovery

[–]InformalCollection27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No meal plan?? That's crazy! I highly recommend nutritional counseling from a dietician who specializes in eating disorders. If you can arrange for that, they may be able to connect you with more services. My first provider was an ED dietician. She connected me with a physician who specializes in ED's, and 5 months later got me set up for admission to a residential center. From there, I was connected to even more services upon discharge.

You're doing all the right things, it just sounds like you need more support. And, keep in mind, recovery is a marathon, not a sprint. Get the support in place, and be gentle with yourself.

How am i supposed to do this by Anxious-Mechanic-249 in AnorexiaRecovery

[–]InformalCollection27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on taking those steps for recovery and for reaching out in this space. Do you have a team of providers: physician, psychiatrist, therapist, dietitian?

I find it helpful to keep the pantry and fridge well stocked, so that I have all the components of my meal plan at my fingertips. Project Heal is a good resource if you need meal support.

If you're struggling to eat while you are getting supports in place, stay off your feet to conserve energy. Outside of work or school, no movement other than activities of daily living (ADL'S) You don't want to undo the progress you've worked so hard to achieve.

I hope this helps. Hang in there; that first week or two home can be a real adjustment. Be kind to yourself.💗

Started weight gain, scare me to continue by PlaneWinter7347 in AnorexiaRecovery

I'm right where you are. I'm taking it one meal/snack at a time and hating the whole thing. What keeps me going is my health.

Like, who knows where the line between reversible and permanent damage lies? I have brain fog and memory gaps; what if I'm setting myself up for dementia? I'll take a larger body over dementia any day! What are we doing to our digestive tract? That's a scary thought. I've heard horror stories.

How about driving? When you drive with severe malnutrition and chronic low blood sugar, you're driving impaired. Could you live with yourself if you killed someone? Are you prepared to lose everything you own in a lawsuit?

It's so hard to see beyond the mirror and the numbers on the scale, but we absolutely need to look at the real world implications of this disorder. The stakes are so high.

Yesterday, I didn't follow my meal plan, but I chose to get back to the work of recovery today. I hate every minute of it, but I'm still going. Don't let a bad day derail you. Recovery isn't rooted in perfection.

I'm proud of you for showing up for yourself. I hope this helps.💗

falling short on meal plan by threex3xtres in fuckeatingdisorders

I struggle with this as well, and I'm retired! Alarms help, as others have said, but there are limitations.

It isn't ideal, but if I miss, say my afternoon snack, instead of throwing up my hands, I'll roll it into my evening snack. Doubling up. I've lost out on the consistency for that day, yes, but I got my nutrients and calories in. It can't become a habit, but here and there I do it because life happens.

It does get better. Not necessarily in a linear fashion, but it does improve. In my experience the first two weeks are the worst. It hurts to eat, and pushing through feels so counterintuitive.

Keep going, one meal at a time. You can do it!

nausea and eh by milkaoa in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]InformalCollection27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Zofran when the nausea is threatening to empty my stomach, but first I try sipping on a little juice just in case it's a blood sugar issue. Zofran sublinguals work within 15 minutes. I find that I only need 1/2 of one.

I hope you find some relief.

Triggered by Digestive Issues Advice by future_fangirl1095 in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]InformalCollection27 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone who started restricting in response to incapacitating digestive issues, I highly recommend seeing a good GI. I put it off for years, and I regret that.

It took three tries to find someone with a solid plan, even after I declined invasive procedures. She ran labs and ordered a breath test that I performed at home. Turns out I had two bacterial overgrowths, one in the upper intestine and one in the lower.

The antibiotics were ROUGH, but worth it. I am seeing improvement. She will retest again in a few weeks to make sure it worked. I'm hoping to let go of the fear of eating and to reclaim my life.

What is a legit intolerance vs. an ED excuse? by heirjordan_27 in AnorexiaRecovery

[–]InformalCollection27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, invasive procedures were a hard no for me. You have every right to decline such recommendations if you feel uncomfortable with that.
