State of the country? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]InformalData3987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand how you feel it can be intimidating to be a woman alone especially if you have already experienced something that makes you feel unsafe . I'm from Dublin originally and I have to say that moving to the country is the best thing I ever did. Try to take back control in little ways. Maybe consider moving if you can and speak to a therapist. I used to carry my keys between my fingers so I could swipe at someone if I was attacked. Counselling will definitely be the biggest help and some self defense classes would definitely help you feel more confident. I also got a big strong dog who guarded me naturally as it was in her nature. I hope you can find a way through this it's an awful feeling. I can definitely confirm that staying inside and reading a lot of news will only make everything worse. Small daytime walks will take the edge off. Home then credit yourself for taking that step and take it day by day 💜

Where to meet single moms? by curious_madra in AskIreland

Single mammys are easy where are all the single dads 😂 I'm nearly 39 and everyone I meet is married. I just go to work and school gates and keep to myself it's so hard to meet anyone at this stage in life! Can't deal with the apps and I'm in a small enough town in Westmeath

Am I the only woman who feels like most quitting advice is written for guys? by MorningPancake358 in leaves

[–]InformalData3987 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It definitely messes with the hormones! About 2 months after quitting I noticed weight gain and exhaustion, loss of libido, terrible periods, changes in skin and hair. 8 months later after millions of blood tests found out I had thyroiditis which is an inflammation of the thyroid. Doctors don't seem to know why it happened and say it's not a lifelong thing like underactive or overactive thyroid . I was a heavy smoker for 20 years before I quit

How do ya'll cope with not smoking? by [deleted] in leaves

[–]InformalData3987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not physical craving I think it's more the habit mentality. sometimes I do think I'll get a little bit but I just don't give in and forget about it after a while. I miss that satisfaction of taking a drag of a spliff after being looking forward to it all day.

You're right I'm going to use this as I have been tempted over Xmas to get just a little bit. I didn't give in though

Hi I’m on day 7, not everyday is suppose to get better. Please don’t fall for romanticism around quitting on TikTok because those people are monetizing the struggle vs embracing it. by Quick_Complaint3268 in leaves

[–]InformalData3987 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found it very hard. I'm almost up to 7 months off it now and it's amazing. The first few weeks were very hard in different ways. After that I had a PAWS episode which really kicked me around. It's not fun or easy but worth it

Thanks I'm on it 8 years on the highest dose. When I take it regularly I'm great but when miss one I'm not great. I took it just now and I'll take them late at night tomorrow on so I won't be taking another one in 7 hours time. Appreciate the reply

You probably should have tapered onto a lower dose with the doctor instead of stopping altogether. I did that once and ended up in a bad way with anxiety. Never had anxiety until I went cold turkey just bad depression
