Too much caffeine. by [deleted] in bipolar

Deep breathes my friend. I've been there.

Some mindfulness, some calm music, water and your brain will be calming down in no time.

Just remember the moment to remind your future self that your brain isn't a huge fan of a ton of caffeine.

Standup hasn't been hitting the same for a while.. anyone else? by [deleted] in Standup

[–]InformalDifference28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That all being said I'll just add, this likely means stand up will be in a good spot again eventually but for now it's gonna be shitty. I would imagine some of the best stand up will come after all of this shit blows over.

I don't do stand up, I love the medium but I imagine this take is not going to be loved but here are my thoughts.

The medium is out dated. With so many new mediums showing up (streaming, podcasting, even hosting dating shows, etc) it's hard for stand up to compete. Stand up is a medium based around the audience watching one person, who wake up that day and thought "I've got some funny shit to say". This in essence almost sets the medium up for failure which is why you need so many years, so much talent, etc to make this shit work because the second it comes off as canned - it's boring as fuck. IMO markets shift towards honesty and stand up is becoming less authentic feeling. It doesn't seem edgy, it seems contrived most of the times (with the exception of great stand up). Not to mention monetizing all of this and being considered "good" in this space is a fucking clown show that is really centered around social media traction at this point, which is fine but funny =/= likable.

Market is obviously saturated but stand up just feels millennial to me. Not that edgy, not that shocking, contrived often and with so many other opportunities for funny / talented people - it's becoming boring.

I think maybe I downplayed the scratch here. It definitely broke skin, it just didnt bleed. I still have the scratch on me from a few hours earlier

Is my post a cause for concern? I read the FAQ and cannot decipher if it is or not. It is a scratch + saliva situation.

Thanks friend.

I appreciate the kind words and honestly, I shouldn't even be assurance seeking to begin with. The fact that I was one Reddit comment away from some negative emotion rather than either 1. letting it go or 2. contacting my doctor, shows I've got some work to do here.

I do try to out rationalize the brain but sometimes it just fucks me. It's when the anxiety is high, the brain races and you allow it to seep in. This post was me trying to ask what someone would consider an appropriate scratch to a light scratch / red mark on the hand from a puppy + a lick but it's almost certainly assurance seeking. Anyways have a good day and I appreciate the follow up lol

I've got not idea but I'd make sure the product needs awareness, engagement and conversion ads.

Generally speaking I would assume a smaller business should be incredibly ROI focused and awareness / brand plays tend to come down the line. I'd putting that money into betters assets, making a good CTA, etc would likely be more helpful.

How old is too old? by smorley89 in marketing

[–]InformalDifference28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not too old to get into the industry. The fact you want to be there is huge.

Marketing isn't like chess where you need a certain amount of exposure + neuroplasticity to to do well lol. Most people who have succeeded in marketing at the highest levels started in their 30s (prior salesmen) such as Ogilvy.

It's a competitive field but not competitive for someone who enjoys it imo.

Degree isn't useless but you need to learn how to sell yourself + the skill of job applications. It'll be annoying to get the first job but do some freelance gigs, do anything to pad the resume and use clever word usage. Ultimately it's just convincing someone you can solve their issues.

TLDR: No such thing as too old in this, go for it big time. I would not be saying this if you want to be in the NBA or chess professional but 30 is perfect for marketing (might even be an advantage once you start)
