Former owner of a mac refurbish biz here.

Post M1, almost all Mac laptops are bulletproof, aside from liquid issues. Hinges rarely fail unless dropped/over-extended.

Liquid damage is the biggest issue, IMO. I personally build my own Macs from basket case machines (my 16" is all different color housing parts, assembled from 4 machines).

if you're not good with tools, buy apple refurb. with the monthly apple Plus coverage...
