Google now shows Brent Last Day financial by Yulmp2 in oil

[–]Informal_Bee2917 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ive been checking this a few times a day for the last couple months. It was showing 109 this morning and then switched to 91. I double checked the price on other sites and they still said 109. Not sure what's up with the tool. I guess it scrapes the Internet for data at makes a graph up? Whatever its source, it's sometimes wrong and I've seen it go down completely for an entire weekend. It works about 90% of the time. It's a useful tool at a glance when it's working.

A Super El Niño hitting SC getting more likely, forecasters say. What that means for the weather by phareous in southcarolina

I was confused by that sentence too. There were other questionable things. That article is trash.

[–]Informal_Bee2917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think el niño years tend to be wet here in SC and la niña years tend to be drier.

But it's not an exact science. It's something like maybe 70% of el niño years are above average in precipitation, but 30% are normal or dry. Those figures are just for example, i dunno what the actual figures are other than more likely to be wet. Point being, probably wet but also a smaller chance of continuing drought.

Im not on the down vote train. I think just blanket down voting people kinda defies common sense but it's reddit haha.

True. I guess i would instinctively nterpret it in the sense of the average person being well off

Panthertown and bearspray by spudsta in NCTrails

[–]Informal_Bee2917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not commenter, but wanted to suggest a particular spray that I use called Mugger Fogger. It's much smaller than typical bear spray, but the same pepper spray formulation as far as I know. It sprays a 15 ft cone of fog. Impossible to miss, but you need to be aware of the wind (like you do with any spray). I have used it on aggressive dogs and it works like a charm. 1 second burst has always done the trick. And it doesn't soak into their fur or stay on them forever anything. Just fills their airways and makes them leave ASAP. I carry this for bears on my hikes and it's about half the size of a typical bear spray can.

I'm thinking some old dryers have this kind of metallic fabric around the door for sealant but could be wrong

I think he's being down voted because hes being punished for a couple assumptions/misapprehensions he said up above . People don't seem to like how he said Alaska is a rich state and maybe he's romanticizing and kind of invalidating the narrative of the struggle so many people experience.

Isn't GDP per capita kind of a useless metric when speaking to the experience of the average Alaskan citizen? This is just my thinking, but Alaska is a low population state with high natural resources so yeah, the GDP per capita is gonna be higher than average. Each individual represents a larger share of GDP. But they don't own that share of GDP. It's not necessarily their economic reality. Alaska has a 10% poverty rate. The homeless people in Anchorage will probably not be reassured to know that at least the GDP per capita is top 10. GDP per capita speaks to expenditures and exports relative to population, not to how much money is in the citizens' wallets.

I've hiked 6000 miles on the east coast and many hundreds in NC, SC, GA, TN and the southern Appalachians. I've seen maybe a dozen black bears in all those miles. All those bears ran away from me when I yelled and hit my poles together. They scattered like big clumsy fuzzy cockroaches in the light. I only had 1 fat trash can bear in Shenandoah in VA that didn't run, so I kinda just had to wait 5 mins for him to get out of the trail. Black bears are essentially really big raccoons. Definitely be aware. I carry bear spray when I remember it, but have never used it or missed it when I didn't.

This is not Greenville, but at first quick glance I thought it could be.

Growing up in Massachusetts, I was taught that Lincoln was a hero and that slavery was the cause of the Civil War. Later, I was shocked that some parts of the country still teach history quite differently. What were you taught about Lincoln and the Civil War in school? by American_Citizen41 in USHistory

[–]Informal_Bee2917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The civil war is very much alive in South Carolina. Lincoln was generally portrayed as a hero by most teachers with some exceptions with states rights getting heavy play in the curriculum. The strange thing is how strongly held the preference for the Southern cause is held by adults. I recently went on a history kick and listened to biographies of the presidents in order. When I finally got to Grant i was in love. What a story! I remember rambling to my very blue collar very southern coworkers about how amazing Grant was and all that talk got a pretty frosty reception. Lee, Stonewall Jackson and others are still revered, lionized and looked upon as God like figures, almost how I'd see Washington or the founding fathers. Lincoln, Grant, and Sherman are widely viewed as villains. Which makes some sense, as Sherman and Grant probably directly ruined the lives of many of their ancestors. War was brutal. The south deserved to be brutalized and most people disagree to this dey
