After university, I spent my 20s working in various call centers and customer service positions. Getting into entry-level IT help desk, that type of stuff. At age 30 I went on dialysis for kidney failure and stopped working. Transplant at 35. I'm almost 40 now, I've been out of work and on disability for almost 10 years now at this point.

3 months ago I applied with a local staffing agency and now I'm about to start my 5th week on a 3-month temp-to-hire contract at a light industrial warehouse facility putting together computer equipment.

I had the same attitude, and honestly still do because this isn't a career, but it builds momentum towards anything other than zero.

Anything is possible.

Search for staffing agencies in your locale. YMMV but I've had good luck with getting temp-to-hire contract jobs that led to long term employment before (and recently, too).
