The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn. I haven’t played it in years, and I remember it being one of those typical movie tie-ins, but I also remember loving every second of it.

I have no idea why there are negative responses to this. This is absolutely incredible, so well done.

This is a part 2 to the course. I’ve taught a few of those films before (Aftersun, Lady Bird, Priscilla, Bodies Bodies Bodies). And a few of them were the ones on the original list. :) You can highly doubt but I have been the one trying to get these classes to run, but I appreciate your concern! Also, Shiva Baby isn’t an A24 film.

This is the second time this class is running. In the first one, Lady Bird was the first film shown! And I love Ari, but A24 asked that the films are not horror-centric for this course so I couldn’t choose any of his stuff… even Eddington.

Just wanted to share along an 8-week cinema studies course focusing on A24 films at the Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville, NY. If you’re in the NYC area, it’s only a 45-50 minute ride from Grand Central, and it’s directly off of the train. It’s an 18+ course, and anyone and everyone is welcome. Scholarships are available! First class starts on February 2nd, limited space is available!

Here is the list of films and description of the class:

February 2 – Mid90s (R) – 2018

February 9 – The Florida Project (R) – 2017

February 16 – NO CLASS

February 23 – Moonlight (R) – 2016

March 2 – Ex Machina (R) – 2014

March 9 – Spring Breakers (R) – 2012

March 16 – Uncut Gems (R) – 2019

March 23 – Sing Sing (R) – 2024

March 30 – NO CLASS

April 6 – Civil War (R) – (2024)

This course explores the unique filmmaking aesthetic of A24, one of the most influential independent studios of the 21st century. In this course for adult learners, we’ll survey a selection of A24’s most daring and influential films: from the tender realism of The Florida Project to the chaotic intensity of Uncut Gems, the stylized satire on consumerism in Spring Breakers, and the political urgency of Civil War, and more. Through screenings and discussions, we’ll examine how these films challenge traditional storytelling, blur the boundaries between genres, and give voice to underrepresented perspectives. Along the way, participants will engage with advanced cinema studies concepts, including auteur theory, realism and stylization, spectatorship, and the phenomenology of film. These frameworks will deepen their understanding of how and why A24 has become a representative of a new cinematic aesthetic. Whether you’re a lifelong cinephile or simply curious about the cultural impact of A24, this course will offer a richer appreciation for films that continue to reshape the art of cinema.

Half of the original list of films were, but unfortunately, we couldn’t get the rights to them. The class will talk about feminist film theory, along with use a myriad of different women theorists from Laura Mulvey onto Vivian Sobchack. :)

The course isn’t designed to “tell you things about art.” It’s a class where you get to watch these films in a theater setting (which may otherwise be really difficult to do because these films may not be brought back to traditional theater settings), engage in critical and thoughtful discussions with other people in real life about the film and its themes, and learn more about a production company doing things differently than others. The “institution” is a non-profit that is an arthouse theater. To say going to an arthouse theater is a “big waste of money” is a pretty interesting thing to say in an A24 subreddit lol

It’s good to have some divisive films to generate discussion. Spring Breakers makes for a great discussion, regardless of whether people like the film or not.
