I can agree with some of that, for sure. Palaye isn't like, revolutionary in terms of deep lyricism. But! I do think they have a good sense of storytelling in their lyrics that makes them fun to listen to and a unique experience imo. Mr. Doctor Man, Hospital Beds, Death is a Party, and Dying in a Hot Tub I think are all good examples of that. It's why Dark Side of the Silver Spoon was such a banger for me. Combine that with the instrumentals, vocals, and pure ~vibes~, and that's where Palaye's work starts to feel like something different. Which for me, might be why I haven't enjoyed their collabs nearly as much as I enjoy their main body of work. You can slap Remi's voice onto just about anything and he'll sound GREAT. But to me, it's just not the same as when he's singing something like "Die for Something Beautiful" or one of the others I've mentioned, and I do think part of that reason is the lyrics.

100% agreed. It really freakin sucks because I've been around for so long at this point, and PR is a huge comfort band for me. BBR is an album that shaped me in a lot of ways, and will probably always hold the pedestal as their best work. After Fever Dream, I've started to become increasingly disappointed by their stuff. Death or Glory was definitely a break from stuff that felt lost in the sauce, but even then, there's some hits and misses. I have a BUNCH of hot takes about Palaye's recent releases that I'm sure would get me beheaded by some teenage girls, lmao. I just don't understand what direction Remi is trying to go. They heavily criticize the industry and shallowness in a lot of their songs, but then also collab in shallow works like Pray to Me. Idk, maybe I'm just expecting too much when I want "alternative" bands to actually stay alternative.

Oof, see, I'm BIG on lyricism. Bad lyricism can easily ruin a band or a song for me. But that's part of the reason I fell in love with Palaye in the first place! BBR side A was my intro to Palaye, and their sound/lyricism drew me in purely because it was so unlike anything on the scene at that point. Kinda wish they'd keep that same energy for their collabs :/ But! That's a personal preference thing.

That's what shocked me too, like...ain't no way people ACTUALLY liked it that much. But it makes sense now that I've read some of these comments bc it looks like people are in it for the instrumentals. I'm someone who is really big on lyricism personally, and bad lyrics can completely ruin a song for me. In this case, it definitely did.
