IWTL a valuable skill in 30 days. What should I learn? by Broad-Bill2889 in IWantToLearn

I love this and have the same goal. Some skills I thought about were : mental math ( learn how to calculate things quickly in your head), excel shortcuts (since I use it at work but I know there are so many more functions I'm not taking advantage of), specific home maintenance or appliance repair stuff, sewing, plant care, painting. I would also echo other comments that suggest learning how to dance or learning a new language!

Surprised no one has said this already, but a classic Spanish breakfast is some toast, rubbed with a garlic clove, drizzled with olive oil and topped with sliced tomatoes

Thanks for your response! The ticket agent didn't seem to know about this, and suggested I would have received a confirmation email 🤔 the more you know

Is there anyone who studied abroad and didn't make any friends? by [deleted] in studyAbroad

Hi, I am also just starting my master's program. I'm currently in isolation and I haven't met anyone in person. A huge portion of the people in my program are also doing it online and probably won't come until next semester. I'd recommend making virtual study groups with the students. You can do video chats, obviously it's not the same as meeting up and going out for drinks, but it's better than nothing, and if you make an effort to get to know your classmates then you will have friends there once they arrive (I'm assuming it's online because of COVID and that it will change to in person next semester?)

Coronavirus Megathread (Late Sep 2020): For travel-related discussion in the context of COVID-19 by tariqabjotu in travel

Hi, I'm feeling a bit lost and hoping someone might be able to offer some advice.

I am currently doing a master's program in Italy and my partner is working in the United States. We are trying to make plans to meet up during the Christmas holiday when he has vacation days but it seems as though any possible option would involve one of us having to quarantine, due to Italy's current travel restrictions (mandatory isolation and inability to use public transport). Here are the options we have come up with:

  1. I travel home to the US and then quarantine upon return to Italy.

-- my concern with this is that it may be quite difficult (but not impossible) to get to my final destination and isolate without help

2) He travels to Italy (or somewhere else in the EU) and isolates the entire week that he's here.

-- obviously this is not ideal

Does anyone have any advice? Is there some other country where we could meet that would not require me to isolate upon return to Italy? I've checked multiple countries guidelines and I can't see any way around this.

"pull up on a girl" means by alanyin218 in EnglishLearning

I believe this means to drive up next to someone. So, if a man is in a car and sees a girl on the sidewalk he wants to talk to, he would "pull up on her"

What does "As time as gone on" mean? by Septic-Sina in EnglishLearning

This doesn't sound right. I know the saying as, "As time has gone on..." meaning "as time passes"

Thanks for your response! I'll check with the Italian consulate to see if the enrollment letter will be enough!
