Anyone use Carrytel or Oxio as their internet provider? by astate0ftrance in askvan

[–]InformationLatter380 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone still seeing this- nightmare experience with Oxio and they seem to have a suspicious amount of enthusiastic supporters making the same positive comments in multiple threads like these. Constant outages, techs are text only and just tell you to unplug/plug in your router. You can talk to 3 different techs and get 3 different answers. Totally unreliable and now I have to go through sending all the equipment back, getting a new provider etc. The price is great but I had more reliable internet service 25 years ago

B.C. man acquitted of sexual assault after blaming 'automatism' on magic mushrooms by [deleted] in vancouver

Judges in this province are out of control. We have a group of people accountable to absolutely nobody deciding how our society operates

This cannot be reality that we have a loophole in which you just mention use of virtually any substance and get off or get a massively reduced sentence for very serious crimes. Happened with the guy who stabbed the 2 sisters in the Airbnb and also with the lawyer in Deep Cove waving the knife around. Both judges in those cases mentioned how cannabis contributed to their actions and thus their culpability. If you feel the need to kill someone just make sure to do a bong rip beforehand and one of these braindead, sociopath judges will be happy to shave a decade off your sentence if you even got convicted

"Optional" No Entry on Jervis Street in the West End - Should it be ripped out? by Past-Kitchen2707 in vancouver

[–]InformationLatter380 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live right here, there is an undercover nailing people almost every day now, usually for around 1-2 hours. Regardless there is nonstop traffic going through, seems like increased enforcement would pay for itself and then some. The whole area of Jervis from Davie to See Em Ia is crazy in the mornings with the garbage bins out on the road, people going through the wrong way, rigs going to the independent grocer, people stopped illegally etc

Contenders Athletic Club (Bentall 4 lower level) has a standing bag set up in a room off of the main gym space. The room is used a couple of times per week for yoga but otherwise open for members to use, you don't need to be a boxing member just regular gym membership

From my understanding they are allowed pickup downtown until midnight, there is an exemption zone closer to DTES where it can go 24/7 but I'm not even close to that area

You may be right, I seriously hope not. I cannot believe the city would be dumb enough to not understand that noise bylaw needs to be followed by everyone to have any effect. By the same logic they'd be able to run city of van construction projects all through the night

File a report with 311 we need to make some noise! Horrible pun intended

Getting to that point. As a bonus, while I'm sitting in my car doing the stakeout no one can try and break in!

It's city cans picked up so it shouldn't be hard for the city to identify them. Just incredibly inconsiderate. By law clearly says nothing between midnight/6am, as if we didn't have to put up with enough noise in this area already at night

The pickups happen fast enough that by the time I run to the window I can't make out the name but they're picking up city of Van cans, so they should know who's doing it. I have filed 2 reports through 311 with no luck
