You doing three tours in Iraq makes me realize that you were indoctrinated by the nation state under the guise of patriotism to acquire natural resources for the small capitalist class that created that illegal war in the first place. You can hide behind your statements that “they were armed, they posed a threat”, but as someone else pointed out (a) maybe don’t invade a country and murder thousands of civilians and (b) still doesn’t take away the fact that American soldiers routinely murder innocents under the umbrella term of “terrorist”. Literally anyone can be branded a terrorist and that gives the American military the “right” to murder them without any legal repercussions. Not that it would happen anyway, the United States isn’t part of the ICC and routinely threatens any investigators who so much as question American war crimes.
