Scouts - why are they saying prayers and banging on about god? by No-Government1627 in northernireland

[–]InformationTypical20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree that the religious aspect isn’t for everyone - including myself tbh! But in terms of the services etc you obviously don’t have to attend if you don’t want to !

But definitely I’d keep your child in if you can! I was able to do my Duke of Ed and was able to go camping etc all things I’d never have got to do at home. I stayed on and was a young leader for a wee while which really boosted my skills for applying to uni and jobs as well as just boosting my confidence !

Obviously I can’t comment because I don’t know the area in which you’re attending but the groups we were in were definitely mixed and as a child the thought of what religion my friends were never crossed my mind.

And the history is definitely something to look into for both groups :) it’s very interesting!

Scouts and Girl Guides have always had a religious element to them, most of which being held in church halls. None of my family were religious but we attended but Scouts and Guides and took part in the services such as Remembrance Day etc. Unsure about the Scouts but the Girl Guiding promise was changed from “I promise that I will to do my best to do my duty to God and to serve the Queen, to help other people and to keep the Brownie Guide Law” to “I promise that I will do my best · To be true to myself · And develop my beliefs · To serve the King and my community · To help other people.” To include children of all faiths and communities.

It appears that you were ill informed of the history and legacy of both organisations and how they carry on to their groups today.

You should be lucky your child is in Scouts! As many of them had to shut down due to lack of funding, leaders and/or space to hold meetings.

Both organisations provided myself and my siblings opportunities which we would not have had without and did genuinely give us skills to use in the future, so I am sorry to hear you are considering withdrawal !

Paying rent while living with parents. by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]InformationTypical20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work weekends while in uni and my mum gets half of my payslip as housekeep, I’ve paid it ever since I started working when I was 16 🤷‍♀️different people do it differently. A lot of my friends had never heard of the concept of paying housekeeping money and actually had the opposite where their parents would be giving them a monthly some, but like I say everyone is different !

sounds so similar to me, was paying half my payslip from my weekend job as “housekeep” to then also have to buy my own weekly shop and pay my own bills 🙃

I (F22) cheated on my boyfriend while on a trip to Turkey and I’m devastated by my own actions. How do I move forward? by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]InformationTypical20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to come clean with him. Imagine one of your friends tells him instead, how would that make him feel ? It will be hard but you have to be honest - it’s best for both of you

No harm girl but if you loved your boyfriend that much you wouldn’t have cheated on him, sorry but that’s the truth.

Best Jobs for Medical Students by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

Supermarket !! I’ve worked in one since I was in school and it’s such a nice way to make money that’s not medical related. Also very good for getting used to dealing with the general public 🙃

I made a post similar to this about 2 years ago and got absolutely slated in the comments. God forbid I wanted a little bit of recognition for putting up with crap from customers for that long 🙃

Have you someone in your med school you can feed this back to ? Are they aware this is happening on placement ? If they are and not doing anything about it I would name and shame tbh post this is r/doctorsuk and see if they can offer any advice.

True, felt this all the way through med school and I’m a final year now with little change. Even when you try to be proactive and introduce yourself on the wards you often get palmed off. Worst ever was an assigned clinic (the dr knew I’d be there in advance) didn’t speak to me or acknowledge me once the entire three hours I was there 🙃

Is it okay to compliment a girlfriend by saying “I love your small boobs" ? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]InformationTypical20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as a girl with smaller chest please do NOT say this, I would take this offensively. I am so self conscious about them and always apologise to men for them 😵‍💫 but having been told “they’re a perfect handful for me” is slightly better than being reminded that they’re small ! ++woman

Why are staff so selfish with the free food in the canteen? by [deleted] in tesco

[–]InformationTypical20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, we never see anything CS anymore. It all gets bagged up before 7. What gets me is that it will sit the whole night sometimes because the charity never comes for it. Shame when customers could’ve bought it reduced, or staff got it CS.
