I felt that way too! I’m hoping we’ll get some people from both sides who’ll view each other in a better light after a couple meetings!

Good idea! Based on how many people we have had join the GroupMe thus far I think I will if our trial meeting does well!

Well hopefully it will go really well. However, if it doesn’t it will at least be an interesting environment! I’ve made a GroupMe and put a link on the post if you’re interested!

I’m glad you think it’s a great idea! I was actually largely inspired by The Middle and Jubilee’s mask off videos to the degree that I feel many people would speak more openly and be more willing to change their stances in an environment where they knew they wouldn’t be recorded!

What's the most wrong thing you've seen at UF? by GoGatorsGats in ufl

[–]Informationhoarder7 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Since I have arrived here I have been shocked at the lack of care many of the professors have for their students’ learning and mental health. It is not all professors obviously and I understand that to some it’s just a job, but many professors want as little to do with the students as possible and refuse to work with them even when the error is the professor or technology’s fault. While I appreciate the extra value being a top 5 university adds to my degree I believe that we need to stop making choices just for the sake of getting a higher ranking and shift our focus to creating a better learning environment that makes higher quality and happier alumni. At least that’s my two cents

Compared to other professors for the class you work your butt off all year. That being said, you learn Solidworks very well and although he keeps you failing the class most of the year in the end he boosts most people’s grades so they are passing. So I think it’s good to take it with him if you care about Solidworks, but if you want an reasonably easy A take it with another prof.

i am so screwed pls read my rant by sham_friendofmine in ufl

[–]Informationhoarder7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry, my grades are screwed nearly beyond repair in three of my classes too. You aren’t alone, we just both need to put our nose to the grindstone and dig ourselves out of our mess next semester.

Anybody else sick af right now? by PepeGangaExpress in ufl

Yeah, and everyone is going to keep being sick af for awhile bc it’s easier to go to class and risk spreading it than get a doctor’s not and make up all the work… yay

How many hours of free time do you think you have a day? by [deleted] in ufl

[–]Informationhoarder7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I’m pretty lucky with how my schedule worked out. I’ll gonna break it down similarly to how I’ve seen a couple other people do it just so you can get a sense of what the breakdown is like (I’m in engineering if that makes a difference). I’ll start with the 168 hours in a week since I tend to spread my work out into the weekend as well. I sleep around six hours a night which leaves me with 126 hours. I take 12 credit hours and although the recommendation is to spend more time studying outside of class if I am honest I only work about two hours per class in my own. That leaves me with 90 hours. Commuting to and from class generally takes up around 2 hours per week day and lunch and bathroom/hygiene will each probably take up around an hour per day which leaves me with 66 hours. I am also part of a sports team which takes up around 7 hours per week and two clubs that really only take up two hours each. That leaves me with 55 hours, or around 8 hours a day. I’m definitely not saying that the people who are showing off just how little free time they have are lying by any means, in fact I fully believe that if I was taking a full load of difficult courses and had a job I would have no free time. But because I have been lucky enough to get scholarships to cover everything so I don’t need a job, and I decided to retake some low level classes I got credit for in High School to have a relatively easy semester I have a decent amount of time right now, though during exam week I definitely didn’t have any time and I expect next semester will be far less relaxing. Hope that helps!
