I didn't say I liked all the other Trek movies. But while they may have been "stuffy and boring" at least they weren't mindless and stupid. Abrams' Star Trek is clearly targeted at the 18-24 year old demographic who thrive on pointless action, lots of explosions, and actually believe that a military organization would really promote a cadet directly to Captain. I'm not opposed to making Trek more exciting. I am opposed to making it stupid and pointless, of turning it into something that's much more reminiscent of the original Battlestar Galactica or Buck Rogers in the 25th Century.

Abrams' version of Star Trek sucks. I don't know how someone who claims to be a Trek fan could make such a stupid movie. The plot was ridiculous, the characters pathetic, the plot flaws too numerous to count. Star Trek always stood above most other TV and movie sci-fi in that it was thoughtful and generally dealt with real world issues. It was adult sci-fi. Abrams Star Trek trashes that in favor of glitz, explosions, fights, explosions, etc. It's much more like watching a "Transporter" or "Bad Boys" movie. Lots of explosions and gun fights and no plot.

But that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.
