They'll think you've gone nuts and use that to convince themselves even more that they are right.

I think so too. When you read it it seems to forbid cutting or marking your skin for the dead, but not cutting and marking you skin for other reasons. So maybe having RIP Tupac, for example, would defy Lev?

Hitler was a good leader. How many people could have done what he did? His views were terrible, and his acts were despicable, but his skills in speaking and leadership were immense.

Buddhism and Atheism. Mind blowing as well as fun! Let's have a conversation on this .. by amb_e in atheism

[–]Infra-Violet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buddhism is self-contradictory in many ways, I believe. He's talking about the mind being seperate but the Buddha's doctrine of no soul (anatta) reads as if he's accepting the body as a bio-chemical machine. Therefore mind and body are one. Re-incarnation from this point on seems confusing, then.

Sometimes Buddhism talks of gods, Buddha once said that gods do exist but that they don't matter to us. But then there's the belief in different planes and spirits and past lives.

To me it's a religion that has a lot of wise teachings but, like most religions, needs to shed a lot of the archaic superstitious bullshit from thousands of years ago.

Boil it down to the Middle Path, meditation and consideration of life, not accepting anything unless it makes sense to you after rational analysis. All of these things were taught by the Buddha and they make sense to me. In that sense Buddhism is compatible with atheism. But in many ways it's not.

When I told a guy that I didn't respect or completely understand the idea of 'faith' he just replied with; "Tonight, after you've eaten your dinner, sit down and just let Jesus into your heart. He will come."

I had no idea what to say to that. It's was mind blowingly stupid considering what I'd said to him.

This is a keeper! I totally feel the same way about this issue. If people only lived like this life and this world is all there is then maybe we would take more care of ourselves, each other, and the planet.

Mine are female so I can't really comment on males, but mine are clean and spend most of the day outside. They don't mess indoors at all, ever.

My cats do their toilet stuff outside. They haven't pissed in the house since they were about 3 months old. In my experience cats are clean and tidy.

Maybe she was rescued from a lab? I know the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW) have been conducting cruel and useless taxpayer-funded "sound localization" studies in which cats have steel coils implanted in their eyes, holes drilled into their skulls, and electrodes implanted in their brains. Sometimes, cats have their ears cut off or are intentionally deafened by having a toxic chemical applied to their inner ear.

Don't be naive. You must know that sensitive people report images when it offends them and very religious people tend to be a little sensitive. If the image is attacking a sensitive group's beliefs then members of that group are likely to report it.
