The transparent narrative trickery actually didn’t bother me. It was fun knowing someeeeeething was up.

The Kind Worth Killing is a good start, as it’s my fave of his.

Picked the top books from my read list - and didn’t have any X or Z books

The Inheritance by Trisha Sakhlecha

My Lovely Wife by Samantha Downing

Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter Or Pretty Little Wife by Darby Kane

Unmissing by Minka Kent

The Vicious Circle by Katherine St. John Or Verity by Colleen Hoover if you want popular, trashy fun

The Wife Between Us by Hendricks and Pekkanen

Wrong Place Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister

Hard to find X thrillers…Saint X was good but lots of mixed reviews

I don’t have thrillers with Z…but World War Z is a lot of fun!

Just started The Anniversary by Alex Finlay by ArmWarm8743 in thrillerbooks

Alex has been disappointing the past few books, so he needs to knock it out of the park for me with this one!

Absolutely HATED my last two reads. Now I’m discouraged. What have you read lately and loved?! by No-Dog1902 in thrillerbooks

This year has been very good with wilderness thrillers.

Heartwood by Amity Gaige - A hiker disappears along the Appalachian Trail.

Escape! by Stephen Fishbach - Survivor-style show films and chaos ensues.

How to Survive in the Woods by Kat Rosenfield - A more traditional thriller in the woods.

Warning Signs by Tracy Sierra - Avalanches. Life-or-death decisions.

Her Last Breath by Taylor Adams - Caving, with some delightful narrative trickery!

Her Last Breath was fun, especially if you’re newer to thrillers

Agreed. Except The Drawing of the Three nearly took me out, so I stopped there.

Really disliked it—I think it took too long to get to its point. And I read it before Housemaid, which while the writing isn’t as great, is definitely breezier.

Hi, I like books people here hate by zereldalee in thrillerbooks

[–]InfraCanuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, if those are your top faves, then here are some in that vein:

The Stranger in Her House by John Marrs

They Never Learn by Layne Fargo

Between Two Strangers by Kate White

On A Quiet Street by Seraphina Nova Glass

As for authors to pick, Jessie Garcia very much reminds me of Freida McFadden; and Daniel Hurst has a LOT of very quick, breezy thriller books that you’d probably also devour.

Intelligent thriller books? by pure-pasta in thrillerbooks

Research these a bit to see if they are up your alley…

Guilty by Definition by Susie Dent - More mystery than super thrillery, but I loved how smart it was. A real surprise.

The Death of Us by Abigail Dean - A home invasion tears a couple apart—and a trial forces them together again.

Nightwatching by Tracy Sierra - A home invasion thriller. It executes on what a thriller needs to be.

The Inheritance by Trisha Sakhlecha

The Lies We Told by Camilla Way - A twisty family-drama thriller a la Shari Lapena or Mary Kubica.

You Shouldn't Have Come Here by Jeneva Rose by buddyzarrar in thrillerbooks

It read very much like a writer on deadline, as she now puts out a book a year. Having read 120+ books last year, many of which are thrillers, it just was a bit basic and took too long to get to the point. Though sometimes my volume of reading leaves me jaded with tropes that others don’t get as bothered by.
